Tips and Tricks for Flash MX

~the-evil-wombat:iconthe-evil-wombat: reports, January 21, 2007
Importing Video!
So youve got some really sick videos, no idea how to put them in correctly and edit them, but you want to...heres how.
-Have the video saved somewhere on your computer, if its from a video camera, have it already cut out from a program like Moviemaker, if its from a digital camera with video capabilites, no problem.
-With a new document open (say 640x420?) press Ctrl+R to open the import window, find your selection and click Open.

A window should open that says
Import Video Settings, there should be 3 little drag bars, heres what they mean.

Quality-This is the quality of your video, if you are using multiple vids, if you want a small file, tiny quality, but it will be very pixely, but you can always try again if it doesnt work.

Keyframe Interval-This is the ammount of frames between keyframs, I reccomend the lower end for higher quality.

Scale-This is the size of the actual window, affix this to your size of your canvas so you wont have to after you finish.

Synchronize to frame rate?-I always say Yes or youll get choppy video.

Import audio-Do you want sound that was recorded with this video to be included?
-Then click OK and wait for it to load. Once its up, click on the first dot in the timeline and press Enter on your keyboard to play (enter is also stop)

SOUND EFFECTS!!
You probably want to know how to add sounds. I can show you

-Play through your video and press enter on the spot where the sound should be.

-Go to Flashkit.com and look up your sound, download and save as an mp3 or wma

-Press Ctrl+R to import, click all sound formats on the dropdown, find the file and press okay.

-Find the frame where you are going to insert the sound on the timeline, create a new layer and on that layer, create a keyframe by right clicking on your frame that you want to start the sound at and select create new keyframe.

-Press F11 and find the sound file and drag it onto the stage, make sure the keyframe is highlighted, find the beginning of the movie and play it.

There you go!

Why Flash MX when 8 has been around for a while now and is more used in schools and such?

:flagcanada: Proudly Canadian - I suggested FAQ #747 :aww:

The FAQ is your friend, use it instead of wasting thread space in the forums.

Ahhhh, if only our school had enough money for Flash 8, or Flash full stop lol. We use the GIMP, etc

Those are good tips, but there is a section on DA for Flash tutorials. It'd probably be better off there than in the news, since thats where people are going to look for help with things like this.

You should probably have as step one: Read the manual. step two: read the manual again. Not really news is it?
