`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Love Letters (A Contest)

`GeneratingHype:iconGeneratingHype: reports, January 26, 2007
Contest Objective: Write a love letter

I want you to write a love letter that represents a stage in someone's romantic relationship. It doesn't have to be a lovey-dovey stage or even a remotely happy one (unless you want it to be), but the relationship must be between two people who have (or had) the potential to experience some form of sexual tension (without breaking any laws).

You can include poetry. You can write it as straight prose. You can make it very formal or you can write in slang or dialect and make it personal in that regard. It can be real; it can be fake. However, it must be a letter (which includes a salutation and a closing line).

Rules:

1. It must be a letter (salutation, etc.);
2. It must be a new scrap or deviation in your gallery;
3. It cannot be longer than two pages, but it must be longer than one paragraph.

How to Enter:

Send *GeneratingHype a NOTE entitled "Love Letter" with the link before Midnight GMT on February 10, 2007. You can submit more than one letter, but please do not submit more than three.

Who Can Enter?

This challenge is open to anyone. Do not be discouraged if you are not a writer. All of us have written a love letter from time to time, and sentiment can be far more important than grammar under the right circumstances.

Judges

(If you want to donate a prize, feel free to send a note to *GeneratingHype.)

This sounds like a very cool contest. I'll definitely have to try to think of something even though I'm all out of ideas right now. Would be fancy if you could have something on-topic as a prize, such as a book of some famous dude's love letters (provided that it's a book worth reading) or similar stuff, but that would require some sponsorship.
~GilesTheBlank:iconGilesTheBlank: Jan 27, 2007, 4:09:04 AM
I would love to enter.. I really would..
But some things should stay inside your heart.. and I'm not sure if I could ever write a fake love letter... just me.. good luck with the contest.
