On 1/27/07, one deviant's deviation was selected for a Daily Deviation. The deviation was a simple digital picture that took about five minutes. The deviation was not something that many would appreciate because some deemed it too simple and easy to do. They put nasty, insulting deviation comments, some of which were very hurtful and just meaningless. There was spamming of how the deviation was unworthy of a DD and there was a series of comments containing just a repetition of vulgar profanities.
Just to clear things up with some of these unsatisfied people, you guys are complaining to the wrong person. That deviant did not choose to have a DD, but most likely appreciated it. Insulting that deviation would achieve nothing. If you have a problem with the DD's, please tell the gallery directors because they are the ones in charge of choosing the DD's. Of course, do it politely, because a first impression is very important in influencing someone. I have no power on DeviantART (yet), I can't ban or suspend people, I can't say "shut up", I can't do those things. Hopefully, those people who do have the power have noticed the problem and have done or are planning to do something about it. I don't take it personally that the deviation was unappreciated because I'm currently on the fence and can't decide whether the deviation was worthy (although I wouldn't voice my thoughts on that). However, I'm sure that I and some fellow deviants would not enjoy people just hopping from page to page leaving insensitive comments on people's page. A small note consisting of constructive criticism would be much more appreciated.
As for those of you who have been victims in such situations or are afraid of facing such brutal criticism, I can't do much. I can only advise that when you guys submit a deviation, choose the Deviations option: discourage criticism or disable comments.
I probably should not have submitted this news and I probably would get in trouble for it but I hope that at least some people would listen and be more respectful and supportive of their fellow deviants and some people find ways to avoid an incident like that. Thank you and sorry if I just made a huge boo-boo and badly insulted someone or violated some rule I don't know about.
Good for you standing up for this person. I feel horrible for the person who received these messages and hope that those who did leave such hurtful comments apologise and realise the error of their ways.

I can't clearly know if it's news or not, but you do have a point. dA has a low tolerance policy on Daily Deviation bashing since it involves insults, uncivility and overly aggressive commenters.
If the deviation in question has been selected as a DD, they need to remain civil and reasonable as possible if they find that the DD violates the submission policy or that they didn't like the way how it was selected as a DD.
Can you note me what the deviation in question that got a DD was though? I tried to look at your activity log, but it was hidden.
I'm of the opinion that anything that presents a valid point about this community has at least some right to be on the news page where it's going to reach and hopefully be noticed by the most people possible. I see a lot of things in the "News" section of this site that no one says a single word about, but they are completely un-related to the art or the community. I can understand both sides, but some of the flaming and harassment in this community goes unnoticed... so if this type of support helps the problem become reduced. I'm all for it.

I'm not really complaining, I'm just informing the DA community of this incident and advising people on what to do. I guess it's considered news because it should benefit the community.
Devious Technology is very proud to announce one of deviantART’s most highly anticipated projects – Portfolio: The Awesome Version!! Portfolio is the simplest and most professional tool on the Internet for formal presentation and review of artwork, and the best part is: it's available to everyone for FREE!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. You're right about that. So why did you submit it anyway?

this kind of pathetic childish behavior towards DD's has to stop.
Unfortunately there isn't much we can do but spread the word.
I +hearted this article, as the message is clearly written and essential to spread.
