This is my first news submission. It's more of sharing my thoughs about a critical aspect of art rather than a rant, so I hope you will give it a read and tell me what you think and tell me if i missed up the category
A week or so ago
mickryan posted this article (
[link]) in his journal. Aside from how hilarious it was, it really got me thinking aboutthe matter. I would just liek to say this this is not a stab at anyone criticing art work (in all it's forms), your feedback has certainly helped me along with many others to enhance our work, but it's more of how I think people have the notion of art twisted around.
I got a comment for one of my photos; it was a 3 word comment; M for Mediocre. I didn't feel insulted or anything, well, because if you look at it from a "pro" POV I dont use any of the photography rules, bad quality, and scenes that for the most part demand music to be played in accompinment.
But that's never the point, photographers for the most part dont take a photo with the notions of "oh this is so my best piece in my gallery! I wonder how many favs and watchs I will get?" We just take the photo because something clicked in our heads. The sight did something to us so we took a snapshot. Art is never about trying to make something perfect, it's about capturing an emotion in it's purest form, with no alterations or changes.
If you look at all those indiviuals who criticed in the blog, they totally missed the point. They jumped the band wagon to try and sound artsy and pusedo inttellecutal dicting the scene, instead of actually trying to immerse themselves in the emotion of it. Cause and point the photo of the bike; where the response was basically " dude wtf is this shit?". Doesn't that scene remind you of something? Your very first bike, how you bounced around like a sugar junkie when your papa gave it to you, and you just couldnt wait to try it out, but just one Second before you do, you just stare at it. Just for a milli second, and then go back to being your ADD self. Think back to that moment when you stared at your bike, you can process the memory more now; you are full of glee, if you could bear hug your dad/mom you would, you'd want to tell them that they fucking rule and there is no one, and i mean no one, as awesome as they are.
Ofcourse, art is ojectional and what one enjoys another might dislike, but in the end isnt it art merely the reflection and outing of a soul trying to better express its self through higher means?
The point is this; dont over analyis art. I mean you are free to interprt it in any manner you like (had a huge argument about this in one of ciril's photos), but never forget that for the most part, the image was taken for a reason. Trying to provide a C&C to make it more "perfect" kills it. It clogs the drains. It's meant to be flawed, art is synonm of the soul; and the soul is not perfect. Doesn't have to be either.
So just enjoy it, reflect on it and more important of all; feel it. Look at the photo or the painting or read the poem and dont try to be too techinical about it. We all know there is room for improvment, but that's never the point. All we want really is for you to tell us how you
feel.

GRATE ART IS
HORSESHIT, BUY TACOS
But the worst are the ones that just make not really exciting artworks ("art") and they call it better than whatever else. Like [link] . Can't stand the contradictionary of WE ARE INDEPENDENT oh wait, we are a scene. An independent scene is like, the same as a non-existing human. But this is my opinion.
Why do you even bother, it still is ONE person, some person who doesn't know you and you don't know him/her either. A bit twisted to write a whole article about it. Just enjoy the art, there will always be people that bash it and there are always people that agree with you. I think you are a bit overanalyzing here too.
