Interviewer Tyler Paige talks with the German, urban artist known as J3K and gets the story behind his work.

TP: To start off the interview, tell us your true identity and where you’re located.
J3K: My name is Julian Knappe. I’m 19 years old and live in Hamburg/Germany.
TP: When you’re visualizing your next piece of work, what do you keep in mind?
J3K: good question. If I have an idea of a work, I try to keep the work strait on the idea. Of course, the result isn't exact like the idea but when I finish the Work, it has to look like my Idea... If it doesn't, I delete it or just keep working on it until it fits...
Often it’s like when I’m working on an Artwork or so, there come more and more ideas while working. I try to bring all my ideas in the work so that the result is good as possible and just reflects my style of designing.
TP: And how would you describe your work? Or rather, what genre of art do you create?
J3K: My works are horrible. Often just a few guys like them because I use colors that don’t fit together. Mostly I concentrate on web designs. For me it's important that the design is clear and classy... Usability is very important for me. In Artworks I don't really have a style. I Mix everything together like Vector, Displacement and stuff like that.
Artworks just reflect my mood I have when I make it... so it definitely depends on my mood which still I take and mix.
TP: Speaking of your work, what would you say your absolute favorite style of work (e.g. logos, illustrations, etc.)?
J3K: Definitely web design and logotypes. Web design because I am going to study it and make to my profession. Logotypes are also my favorites because I find it awesome to create something for a Company or so...
TP: What’s on your play list?
J3K: Generally only music that is on my play list is electro and house! But the moment there is the album Mercedes Dance by the German artist Jan Delay. There are also some other things like:

TP: Ooh, Justice and Simian. Wonderful. So what’s with the current job situation? You doing freelance or what?
J3K: Actually I’m just about to finish my school. I’m doing my A-Level now and then I want to study at the SAE institute. From there I’m first going to make my diploma and then finish my study with the Bachelor of Arts.
After that I try to find a Job by one of the big advertising agency or working for them as a freelancer.
