A Feminist Perspective on Questionable Images

*sick-snowangel:iconsick-snowangel: reports, July 1
Sex and sexuality in art are some of my favorite things, and certainly sometimes arousal is part of this, but more importantly, it is FAR MORE than about simple arousal, as porn is. One of my deviantart friends, :iconcypherthepanicartist: , said that art of a sexual nature can “ provoke thoughts about our dreams, fears, desires, and place in the world"...yes! Well done art that deals with sex exposes the soul of the subject or act in question, not just the naughty bits. I feel that any kind of work on this site that looks at sexuality in a thoughtful or artistic or critical or celebratory, etc. way is certainly appropriate content for an art site, because, of course, this work is actually ART.

Vista Sales Slow? It's Those Darn Pirates!

~kampongboy92:iconkampongboy92: reports, February 24, 2007
Last week we mentioned that Microsoft was backing away from sales forecasts that it's now calling "aggressive" for Windows Vista through 2008. A lot of people marked slow sales up to a combination of hardware and software support lagging, and the lack of compelling reasons to move away from Windows XP considering how stable of an OS it has become in the last 5 years.

However, it seems Microsoft sees the issue a bit differently.

In the same call last week with analysts saying that estimates on sales were overly aggressive, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says one way to improve sales is to tighten the screws on pirates through strengthening of the Windows Genuine Advantage protection system. Claiming "Piracy reduction can be a source of Windows revenue growth..."

Specifically mentioned, was targeting emerging markets in Asia, currently hotbeds for software piracy.

The question is, will making it harder to pirate encourage more sales? Or will these protections just prove a minor annoyance that will just take a little while longer for hackers to overcome? And what will be the cost to legal users who find themselves having to prove their "legal" copies to Microsoft in the future?

Based from the reviews I've read, I thought it was weak because it doesn't provide as much offers compared to XP, or at least until a couple of years later

maybe its because its just not a great OS...
OSX rules!
Yes, I have tried it.
and most of windows features are theft of intellectual property anyway, if you look at Vista, its basically XP with some stuff macs had ages ago, like the sidebar, which is a copy of the dashboard, but not as good.

Piracy is certainly an issue for Microsoft... on one site alone (which I will not name here) there are already 16 cracked versions of Vista available and I'm sure many more to come.

until dx10 games come out and i can afford a dx10 card, i'll hold off. i would like the extra benefits of dual processing, but it's really just another service pack isn't it? and it's too expensive. under £100 and i might buy it straight away but.....

"...lack of compelling reasons to move away from Windows XP considering how stable of an OS it has become in the last 5 years."

Piracy has always been a problem for Microsoft. So saying that their sales are down because of it, probably is a little inaccurate. I'd like to believe that maybe the public as a whole is starting to catch on tot he fact that the Operating Systems that Microsoft creates, while very user-friendly and functional are released without near enough testing and correction.

its not the pirates its that vista just sucks! at least right now ill wait till SP1 be4 getting it i will get it but later
most people wont go buy a new os till the drivers come out and all the bugs r fixed
my friends drivers still rnt out for his graphics card and he cant play anything
the sales will go up but just not right now
and i think most people feel comfortable using XP they dont fell the need to move to something new they dont know
