Film Vs. Digital: Photo Descriptive Checklist?

*vaporiss:iconvaporiss: reports, February 25, 2007
vs.

With the recent controversy over the sections getting removed & film vs. digital, I've come up with a possible solution that I like and think would be a nice option of having.

First of all, the list I've generated is just a scrap of something I put together. I actually encourage you to make any adjustment by copying and pasting or creating a new draft of how you think things should be done.

Next, I'd like to say that this option to have is that AN OPTION. I don't see the point in creating two completely different categories for film and digital; it just wouldn't work.

So, this is my idea on how to fix this.

The default option for each photo submitted would be at "Unknown" meaning : you just don't care or want others to know if you shot analog or digital.

But for those of you, including myself, that would like to have a "Checklist" which are like itty-bitty subcategories for each photo.

This is the first draft I've come up with.

It may be too specific, or not specific enough, help me out!!!

"Film":

-Film/Processing
---Black and White
---C-41
---E6
---Infrared
---Cross-Processed
---Instant Film
----------[Manipulated]
----------[Transfer / Emulsion Lift]
------600 Film
------SX-70 Time Zero
------Spectra
------Pack Film
------Slide Projector
---Other Film
---Other Process

-Darkroom
---Dodge/Burn
---Filters
---Cropped
---Solarization
---Photogram
---Negative Print
---Toner
---Other

"Digital"

-No Editing

-Edited
---Color Adjustment
------General Color Adjustment
------Desaturated
------Selective Coloring
------Digital Cross-Processing
---Contrast
------Basic Contrast Adjustment
------Levels
------Curves
---Layers
---Special Effects
---Dodge/Burn
---Sharpening/Blur
---Other Adjustments

(Sorry I don't know too much about digital editing)

These will all have check boxes which you can select for your photograph.

I think this option would be very good for artist who are looking for similar work to learn from.

Such as if you were looking for Polaroid Transfers or Cross Processed photographs. Or just want to look at Time Zero Polaroids without having to root through all the other types of films.

I know you use keywords and all, but I think this would be a lot more effective and easy.

Dumb idea or?

I think when its a good digital camera, in the right hands, you shouldn't even wonder about if its film or not, and I think digital is only noticeable when its a lower quality camera. Of course, a low quality film is also apparent, but on the better end of both, I think the mystery of just what it is may be better, of course, on the better end of digital you get the EXIF

having it remain a 'mystery' would be default.

but do you atleast like the idea of having it an option to decipher the two?

This sounds really effective...the issue it would come down to is just whether people answered truthfully or not. I think some people lie about their pictures being unmanipulated because it makes their photography skills seem better.

You should definitely submit this though :)

I don't see the point in segmenting the photography gallery into analog and digital. If you really want to know which, ask the deviant. Also, if the photo is digital, it will usually show the EXIF data underneath the deviation.

The point would be to not have to ask the deviant and allow for someone to easily search for images.

The point of deviantART is to interact with other artists.
