`GeneratingHype on letters, editing and GDship

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, August 30
An interview with ex-GD, writer, editor, fascinating person: `GeneratingHype. Here are some tidbits from the interview (which I recommend reading in full):

"Letters presuppose a sort of authenticity, and I truly believe that a story—no matter the form—needs to be authentic and believable.

"Sometimes I wish I had stories such as "I wrote my first published poem at three and a half!" or "I started writing stories at two!", but writing never came easy for me and is still not very easy for me.

The Use of Adverbs in Fiction Writing

=DarcKnyt:iconDarcKnyt: reports, August 29
Adverbs are the endangered species of the adult fiction world. They're frowned on like putting a Baby Ruth bar in a punch bowl at a wedding reception -- not a good idea. They're also indicative of weak writing ... but why? This article covers why adverbs are evil and what you can do to avoid using them.

The fotoFRIDAY Challenge: Results!

*fotoFRIDAY:iconfotoFRIDAY: reports, February 25, 2007
Hope your friday was a good one. :)

As *fotoFRIDAY's twenty-fifth week anniversary closed in, we decided to celebrate by holding a contest based on a photo prompt. We received many fantastic and well-written pieces of both poetry and prose; it was an absolute pleasure to read all of your work and see how each person reacted differently to the photo provided.

And from all those wonderful pieces, we chose two winners that went above and beyond. Not only were they excellent examples of poetry and prose, but offered unique perspectives and were presented as finished or nearly finished pieces.

We present to you the winners!

Prose:

Of Sunsets by =IfrozenspiritI

Poetry:

Netting Fairies by ~SparrowsTakeRoot

Both winners will receive:

:bulletblue: A copy of `alienhead's new novel, A Life Transparent

:bulletblue: Winner's choice of =caveatLECTOR's prose mug:

`alienhead poetry mug:

Or a print of equal value.

:bulletblue: A 6-month sub provided by ^coshdaddy

:bulletblue: An interview with `bananaprincess about their piece and their writing.

Please make sure to check out the rest of the entries too and leave some love:

What is fotoFRIDAY?

*fotoFRIDAY, originally began on PoetryCritical by a fellow named onkelcripsy, is a weekly photo-based writing prompt. Recently revived at PoetryCritical, `youthculture thought it would be a fantastic idea to carry the concept over to dA and expand it to include poetry and prose.

The concept is simple: write a poem or story inspired by the week's picture. There are no line requirements, and the author can choose to be as literal or figurative with his/her interpretation as s/he'd like.

In 2006, fotoFriday earned `youthculture an award as a senior dA staff member for "bringing together visual artists and writers by inspiring art with art". It has been applauded and honored by senior members and gallery directors throughout the dA community and continues to inspire countless artists on dA and beyond. In January 2007 `alienhead even published a short novel, A Life Transparent, originally conceived from a fotoFriday prompt.

Congratulations to the winners,
great work :)
I find it a bit weird that my story
"The Snow Ball Couple" isn't among the entries because I did send it to the contest and I thought I had sent it correctly, but it doesn't matter.
Once again, congratulations to the winners, I will read the entries today.
