Giving to those who are truly in need

=ImaRawkStar:iconImaRawkStar: reports, December 23
This is the time of year of which we all get tangled up in our own troubles and do not focus on some of the real issues of the world. Well, heifer.org can help us with this, by giving animals to families who are truly in need of food, shelter and security.

By donating a small sum of money, such as ten to twenty dollars, you could provide a family with an animal such as a cow, which could produce milk for the family, for food and cooking. With the extra milk it produces, the family can go to the local market and sell the milk to gain more money, which could go towards food and shelter. Over time, the family will start to gain an income and will be able to earn an education.

With the education, they can receive a steady job and produce a stable income for the family to survive. Just by donating a small sum of money, you could not change one life, but many around them. But this is not just it, the family MUST produce offspring to give to another family, which will do the same thing as the family before. Over time, the community will grow and sooner or later, the impoverished areas will start to gain strength.

Even if you can not donate any money, please donate a few seconds or minutes by adding a favorite to this article and sending it on to other deviants around deviantart. It would be really awesome if we could get some support on this, and maybe as an art community we can pull together to help others in need! I know it can be done!

When did we start hating everything?

When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

Project Comment: Around dA Issue 6

#ProjectComment:iconProjectComment: reports, December 6
Project Comment is all about the community, so instead of just sticking to one thing and effectively closing all our walls and doors, we’re issuing a weekly Around dA, Project Comment style.

This news article includes things you can take part of (Groups, Features, Projects and More!), FAQs and Tuts, Guides and Resources. Each category is limited to only five things so that you have time to visit each individually.

Have something to suggest? Note us! :D

SAAM Sexual Assault Awareness Month, April

=crystalofchaos:iconcrystalofchaos: reports, 1d 4h ago
Rape is not just a crime, it is a heinous and personal invasion on the most intimate of levels. Rape destroys lives and belittles its victims. End the silence, conquer fear, and speak up. We need to raise awareness and help prevent this inhumane crime.

Happy Christmas!

Fashionistas Feb/Mar 2007

~Dogbert2k4:iconDogbert2k4: reports, March 13, 2007
This past month (and a half) has been huge for fashion, (thus why this article could merit a tl;dr ) and we're here to do an overview of the craziness that has ensued and showcase some of the latest and greatest works brought to us by the ever-creative minds of our resident dAsigners, but first, let's take a look at the professional world of fashion.

:bulletred:Fashion Week: Last week was Fall Fashion Week, and the world of fashion was treated to the latest work of designers like Christian Dior (currently headed by John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. These specific designers put the audience in awe as they strutted their stuff down the runway in looks right out of the forties, witches and downright fun with fake furs and splendid knits. Be sure to check out the latest collections and take a peek at this year's spring collections as well at: [link]

Note: If you're looking for something a little more wearable, check out the ready-to-wear collections as couture collections are filled with pieces meant as art and not necessarily for use off of the runway.

:bulletred: New Trends: Wanting to spice up your wardrobe with the hottest new trends? Well, both the past and future are in right now with looks inspired by the 1980s and the looks of tomorrow being all the rage. If you're looking for something a little whimsical, try using geometric shapes and circus inspired designs such as flowy and swingy ponchos, bubbles and more. Let's not forget those pinup girls whom are making themselves known on the runway with short shorts, long legs, and, even, turbans. To check out more on these trends and perhaps a few more, check out the style report, available here: [link]

:bulletred: Le Beau Monde: This fierce competition, run by resident dAsigner *Kallastyos came to a close this past week with ~MadStar taking the gold. Her collection, Revenge, took the judges by storm:

Here are the other collections (which were not ranked)

~insaneashrak1

Her collection, Moonlight Survived, was inspired by a Moments of Grace album/

=alexseth

His collection was filled with geometric shapes and was very art-deco

And last, but certainly not least, *lilly-anne

Her collection, Schwandame, was full of flowy gowns was inspired by Wagners epic opera "Lohengrin"

Great Work Everyone

:bulletred:Project Designer: Season 5 of ~cjrogers1993's very popular fashion competition came to a close last week with the top prize and title of "The next big dA Designer" going to ~lrenah who beat out ~linzwinz by a mere 5 points. ~lrenah's collection, Boholuxe was filled with boho inspired looks and patterns to die for:

~linzwinz

Her collection, Flight, was inspired by the photography of Eliot Porter, specifically his work with birds.

=da-coppa-one

Her, collection, Travelers, didn't quite get finished in time, but the line work is simply fabulous. Unfortunately, she was suffering from a Very bad flu (her journal mentions it as a deadly flu strain), but luckily, she was able to pull through and is better now. Glad to have you back =da-coppa-one!

Note: :cjrogers1993: has opened up applications for cycle 6 of Project Designer for all those interested. The deadline is April 14th and more info can be found here:

:bulletred:ProjectPOW!: ~Buffyboi5 has started a brand new fashion competition, ProjectPOW!, based at his ~ProjectPOW with results posted at [link] . This week's challenge is to make beachwear that's NOT a swimsuit and can only use three colors (including the accessories). Last weeks challenge (the very first one of the contest) was to make an outfit inspired by superheroes. Here is the winner of that challenge and the top 3:

~forneverever

Her EGO: The Living Planet inspired outfit won over the judges who unanimously voted her the winner.

Top 3

~Dogbert2k4

His outfit was inspired by secret lairs and the public perception of them.

~linzwinz

Fresh off of her second place finish in PD, Linzwinz deliviered strong with an X-Men inspired look.

~OiPanda

Her approach was a Superman inspired dress.

Good Job Everyone! While it's too late to join, it's never too late to try out a challenge for fun or to just keep an eye on what's going on. It's sure to be a lot fo fun. Once again, ProjectPOW! is located at ~ProjectPOW and [link]

Fashion Design sub-gallery News: Thanks to =catzilla, the fashion design subgallery has been revamped with both a fashion design subcategory and a t-shirt design category, making it easier to browse the latest in dA couture and graphics. Thanks for taking the initiative in getting that started =catzilla!

And now it's time to end this issue. I hope to make this a monthly thing, so, see you next month! If anyone has any suggestions, featurewise, or news-wise for next moth's article, please note me. I'll Finally, here are some of the latest designs to come out of the world of dA fashion:

EDIT: Under Fashion Week, it should read "last month" not "last week" as Fashion Week occurred in different places (e.g. Paris, Milan, New York and Madrid etc) throughout the whole month.
