Hey guys, I just wanted to talk to you about cosplay costumes and photos that you post on dA. There has been some obvious confusion as to where to post your art, so I would like to put this out there as a clarification. Please pass this along to your fellow cosplayers, or link to this if you deal with costumes or cosplay photography in your journal. Hitting that little +

button also helps too.
Artisan Crafts is about the crafting of 3D objects. If you peruse the gallery you can see things like jewelry, dolls, lamps, and even furniture. There is even a section completely dedicated to textile items: clothing, costumes, quilts, etc. I invite you to mosey on over and familiarize yourself with this gallery (and leave comments and stuff while you are there

).
If you wish to post your cosplay items in the Artisan Crafts>Textiles>Costumes category, please keep these things in mind:

The costume must be crafted by you. This means that it must be sewn by you. Or glued together. Whatever. As long as you make it basically from scratch. This means that you cannot post a costume made by someone else, and you cannot post a costume made by pulling things together like a pair of pants, a t shirt, and a sweater that you found. I know it is sooooo easy to throw on a pair of pants and a black tube top and call yourself Winry Rockbell, but that is not what this gallery is about. This is also not the place for bought costumes.

The costume must be displayed in the photo so that we can see it. I will move any photos where you are too far away in the distance to see the costume clearly, or if you are making a pose so where I cannot see the costume clearly, or if it's just a head shot of you. This gallery is NOT about the character, or the pose, or the place where you took the photo. It is about the crafting of the costume.

This is not the place for snapshots of you and your friends posing at a con, or of snapshots of people you don't even know at a con. Again, this is for showcasing a costume you created. If you have awesome photos of people in costume at a con, please put them in a photography gallery, and be sure to ask a photography gallery director. I believe ^
Ghouldaddy would be in charge of this sort of thing.

Wigs, make up, tails and ears, gloves, etc., all have their own separate gallery if they are not displayed in a full costume type format. Wigs are indeed a textile item, and can go in accessories. Make up/prosthetics/body painting can go in Traditional Art. It is very important that you read all the gallery descriptions to avoid having your stuff moved to scraps.
And that's pretty much it. If something of yours is moved and you do not think it is fair, then please go to the help desk in order to get the matter resolved. Mostly, mis ategorizations will be moved to scraps where they can stay or you can move them to a more appropriate gallery.
Thanks!

Making fun of the powerful is Bravery, because they can make you pay for what you say. This is why Satire is the weapon of the Clever Courageous. Making fun of someone weaker than you are, that is merely Cowardice.
