I’ve realized lately that the appreciation for photographers here on good old deviantART is going down in the scale a little bit. Artists are being put up on the pedestal more and more (mainly anime artists) of course I’m not knocking anime, and especially not artists in general, but I feel that photographers are being put back into the shadows for several reasons.

One of the reasons that annoys me the most is that if you look around you’ll see the majority of photography around deviantART is what many people call “Myspace pictures” though I wouldn’t exactly call them that, (I’d call them snapshots)I agree with the fact that many people are taking pictures of themselves, with webcam and such and just putting it up on deviantART trying to pass it up as art. This sort of photography has led many people telling me that photography on deviantART is sort of a joke, it’s really disappointing to me as a photographer that many people over look photography here on dA because of this (and of course other reasons).

If any of you have ever had the opportunity to witness A classic Bob Fosse play entitled “Pippin” you’ll know all about the opening song called “magic to do” the lyrics goes as follows.

"Join us, leave your field to flower
Join us, leave your cheese to sour
Join us, come and waste an hour or two, doodle-ee-do

I love the theme of Pippin, how we on the stage create magic, a surreal sort of reality with lights, costumes and lines. I believe as photographers, we can do that too, capturing the beauty of the world that nobody else may see, weather it be in the look between lovers, or the smile of a baby or even a small ladybug on a leaf. Simple things that we in our busy lives tend to overlook. But photography captures all the ideas and beauty that we may miss while going about our lives.

Please do not take photography for granted, though you may think it’s easy to point and shoot, it’s more difficult than it may seem, and we want to contribute to the art world as well.
