Gallery Updates
Well another month gone by! On issue 6 of our newsletters! I hope they are serving as a great place for you guys to get information on the Manga/Anime community. We have a lot to cover this time.

First off, the report desk is getting filled up so fast, we can hardly keep up with them... Thats GOOD! it just means we have to get in the more often. Hopefully in time people will understand the galleries a bit better and miscats wont be such a big problem. The issue is that, no matter how many time we write newsletters, journals, move deviations, edit gallery descriptions and cry, there are those people who just don't care, or don't read what we put right in front of their faces. So help us help you and tell people about the news, the gallery descriptions, and report violation link so that we can get everyone on the same page (shut up, I can dream cant I?).

Now, with the violation reports, while we appreciate and need them, they are sometimes a huge frustration! there are several things that happen that really make it hard for us to get them done in a timely manner.

1) When you are reporting someone, and its a miscat (mis categorized deviation) AND a copyright violation, the fact that its a copyright violation takes precedence over the fact that its in the wrong category. Please use the "Copyright Infringement" option in the drop down in those cases. When you don't do that, i have to clear the report and re-report it myself, or send it to someone who deals with copyright. Not only that, I have to go dig through the vast inter-webs for some kind of evidence! Thats an annoying extra step when we have 2000 other reports to deal with. 2) When you are reporting a miscat (using the misplacement option in the drop down) and its being reported for being fanart, in a non fanart section, please tell us which series its from. There are many reasons for this. the most logical being, we cant know ALL the mangas, Animes, or games in the whole world. Second, even if i did know them all, there is no guarantee we could recognize the character from the image. A lot of times people take certain liberties with characters that leaves them kind of unrecognizable to outsiders. Then if we peek at the artists comments on the picture sometimes its not mentioned. Then what? we have to say there is no violation and ignore the report. Both of our time is wasted then. Sadness all around.

3) When you are reporting something that belongs in scraps, make sure it actually belongs in scraps. We tend to be pretty lenient about what goes into scraps. Personally, I only place into scraps, deviations that are of low quality in presentation, not done with low skill. lets face it people, you aren't perfect either. Lets not run around penalizing people for not having as much experience or skills as your favorite artists. If you want to report things you think belong in scraps, keep the following in mind:

a: line art, technically isn't complete, but given the vast age group of our community, it might be the best, most advanced stage a certain artist can get to and still be happy with their work. We are not elitists. Let them have it in their gallery.

b: Things that make something qualify as being a "scrap": Blurry/out of focus photo of the art, Time and date stamp on a photo of art, Photos of art that are un-cropped to feature ONLY the art, and not the bedroom it was drawn in, Sketches on lined paper, scans that don't crop out the spiral bindings or scanner bed edges.

The above listed are what make something look unprofessional. This gives the illusion that you don't care about your art. If you want to show your art, present it well. When you photograph or scan it, take the best photo/scan you have, and take it into photoshop, paint shop or Gimp (or any other!) and crop it to your image, with the composition you want. If you have blue lines from your paper here is a really easy tutorial for removing them! If you have a time and date stamp, erase it our crop it out. Adjust the brightness and contrast so you have the white of the paper back, and your ART is the focus of it.

Give it some borders too, and make sure its clean. Honestly, you know how to get popular on DA? Present your work well. A gallery that looks like its owned by someone serious about their art will get more comments and more favs and all that stuff you crave. I might make a tutorial to link to on how to present your work, but for now, just keep this in mind

4)`aeterne and ^guruubii are not the only ones who see these reports, sometimes other GD's help out, and all admin can see them. Sarcasm, insults towards the artists work, or anything rude is not tolerated. Be mature when you report. Not only does it make it faster to go through, but you won't look like a jerk. This is a community, we are not a lynch mob scrapping everything. We do our best to put things in the right place whenever possible, or at least tell why its been moved to scraps, and what to do next. There is no reason to be a jerk simply because the artist wont see what you say, because that taints your reputation. Be nice! We are all friends here!


Otherwise a huge Thank you to everyone who is reporting miscats and helping us clear out those galleries! as you can imagine, cleaning out those massive galleries can be a pretty difficult task, and with all your fingers reaching the many corners, it makes it that much easier! 100 times!
