First, I would like to thank each and every one of the troops serving in the military today, giving up their freedoms so we can be free.

Second, as a military veteran, I want to extend my thanks to everyone out there who supports our troops. Next time you see someone in uniform walk up and thank them … from experience, it means a lot.


Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it expanded to include those who died in any war or military action.

Traditional observance of Memorial Day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country.

Be not ashamed that you loved them, though you may or may not have always. Take what they have left, and what they have taught you with their dying, and keep it with your own. Take one moment to embrace those Fallen Heroes you left behind."
