And what is this contest about? Well, by now I imagine you have guessed it, with so many clues, and the little contest head I added yesterday. It all revolves around masterpieces and reproductions of them, but NOT ANY reproduction. This is a technical challenge, wich means your entries will be judged by the technical aspect specially. Also of course, as always, originallity and dedication are a big part when we choose the winners.
Anyway, let's say it clear. What's the subject of the contest? To make your own reproduction of a masterpiece, changing the technique of the original. This means not just the medium, it can also be the way the medium is used. Its not the same thing The Mona Lisa painted in blended colors, that the same picture in pointillism.
So for more information, here are the guidelines...
Guidelines
You have to make a reproduction of a masterpiece (in the meaning of artistic production of one of painting's big masters, such as Botticelli, Leonardo, Goya, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso, etc.), but making a modification in the technique of the original work.
You can also do a subtle modification of content of the original painting. But just subtle. This is because this contest is not about flipping around the content of the painting of someone else (like drawing a mustache on The Mona Lisa), it's about making a change on how the painting was made.
As always, only traditional painting is accepted (watercolors, oils, acrylics, inks, etc.). Sorry everyone else but this is a traditional painting club.
Only *painters club members can participate of this contest. But don't worry, if you are not right now, you can always apply by following the "How to join" rules linked in the top of this journal.
You must upload your work in your gallery in deviantart, and send a Note to the club with the link to your work and a link to the original masterpiece. This last requirement is MANDATORY.
You can scan or take a photo of your work, but the image file of it must be at least 640 pixels width. Be careful if you take a photo with flash of your work, flares usually disturbe the image. Try taking it outside in natural light, without flashes.
The note must include a description of the medium used in the original masterpiece, and in your work. The subject of the note has to be "Lost in Replication submission"; if that's not the case the note may get confused with normal submission notes, and not get into the contest.
Only one entry per member.
The deadline, as usual, will be 2 months. If more is needed, an extra month will be added to the guidelines when the date is closer. This means for now all entries must be in by June 5th, 2007.
