Today's article may come as a bit of a surprise, given that the club posted one yesterday. Nevertheless, here's another one. Please let me advise that faving this news article will increase the chances of it being seen, and therefore increase the chances of the deviations within it being seen. I (~mrjans) contributed all of these deviations, so I hope you enjoy. ;)

Please Help a Dying Boy

~JLStock:iconJLStock: reports, April 8, 2007

Please Help a Dying Boy

I saw this on YouTube, and decided I would spread the word here. Please consider sending a (Get Well Soon) card and spreadig the word so we can make his dream come true.

Josh Adkins, 12, has terminal bone and tissue cancer. Jaden Steberl, his schoolmate, wanted to do something to bring some cheer to his best friend. Both boys are Lexington, Kentucky Stanford Elementary fifth-grade students. Jaden decided to see if the two boys could break the Guinness Book of World Records by getting the most get-well cards in the mail.

Josh’s mom says that the get well cards lift his spirits as he is currently in the hospital undergoing 48 chemotherapy treatments for the second time. His mom is convinced that getting these cards is what is really keeping him going and having as much of a positive outlook as possible.

His address is:

Josh Adkins
124 Edgewood Dr
Stanford, Kentucky 40484

For further information, please view the YouTube videos. Some people on youtube were complaining, saying that this was a hoax, or a scam, but please, do it. I have faith that this boy is real, and I will be sending a card, and getting friends and family to do the same. They are not asking for money, just a Get Well Soon card. Is the cost of a card and a stamp not worth it? Please do it.

Please look at the big picture. If this child is real, you will give him joy in his life before he dies. If he is not, you only spent $3. Why should you even have to think about it? SEND A CARD!

I have started to research this a little further, and found little or no information about Josh on the web. I have also found this: [link] (basically, Guinness doesn't even DO that record anymore) -- I'm gonna research it further, but now that I see this, now I'm beginning to wonder if it really IS a hoax. -sigh- I should have researched more before posting.

Sorry folks. Just ignore this. If you still want to send a card, please do. But don't reply to this saying it could be a hoax, I know quite well it could be, and probably is.

The only thing bugging me is all the videos, stories, etc about this child keeps saying the record is 2 million, when actually it's 33 million. If it were true, wouldn't the number had been correct? And before trouble was made, wouldn't they have contacted Guinness to see if they could still try for that record?

Again, sorry folks. This is actually the third time this story has been circulated on the internet. Same story, different child, different cancer.

I don't know what to think. I'm not a bad person, I want to send this child my card... but I also don't want to be scammed, and I don't want to circulate a scam.

I apologize in advance if this is one.

They link you mentioned in your own comment is about Craig Shergold, your article is about Josh Adkins.

It could be a hoax. What if it's not? It couldn't hurt to send a card.

I already read a newsarticle about something similar though;
35.000.000, a 7 year old's wish
I already have a card. I'm sending it. Even if it's a hoax ;)

Oh, how do you know it can't hurt to send a card anyway? What if someone who doesn't particularly want to get loads of cards gets tens of millions of cards? Do you have any idea of what it would be like to actually receive, say, 20,000 cards a day? You can't even read them all, you can't even look at all the pictures if you want to have time for anything else, and they just keep coming, thousands every single day, and there's nothing you can do to stop them. :-P
=Anoya:iconAnoya: Apr 13, 2007, 2:41:39 AM
 true! Hmm, then it's just good for my conscience. I'd feel guilty for him receiving 'only' 34.999.999 cards, and he'd be missing the one card that I didn't send ;P
