diptych portrait competition

=DoNotAttempt & myself have decided to launch our latest project - this totally sweet competition.

Basically we were bored, felt like giving away stuff and wanted to see some awesome art. it's been a while since =DoNotAttempt and myself have hosted a competition, but we still have what it takes.

This is basically for Diptych Portraits. well. not basically. it is. this shouldn't take too long to read, so please do so if you're planning on entering or just interested.

« Diptych » has a very open definition, but for our purposes, it's two photographs, in one image (side by side or one above the other - but not merged together!).

« Portrait » is defined as A likeness of a person, especially one showing the face, that is created by a painter or photographer, for example. once again, for our purposes, it is only photography.

beyond that, this theme is pretty much open to whatever you can think up within those guidelines, but take the time to read the rules, they make this all a little more clear.

how to submit

• make sure to follow the rules (below) before submitting to avoid being disqualified!

• take two photographs (one or both being portraits) put them side by side as one image and upload it to dA

• in your description, include that it's for this diptych competition and link back.

• deadline is May 9th, 2007

the rules

• Only one entry per person (that's two pictures in one deviation)

• Editing is basically restricted to what can be done in a darkroom (contrast - levels, curves,etc. colours - selective colour, converting to B/W, etc). Obviously we require that you put two photos in one, so you may add borders if you'd like. keep it reasonable.

• Must be a diptych. This is basically two photographs - side-to-side, top-to-bottom, etc. don't just put two images together. this isn't just about the photos, it's also about composition and how the photos work together. Scroll down to "help" for examples.

• Must contain a portrait. Either only one image as a portrait, or both. be creative with this. Scroll down to "help" for examples.

• Deadline is May 9th, 2007. if you're late by an hour or so, especially due to time zones and stuff, no matter. we're forgiving.

• Both photographs must be taken for this contest.

• Nudity is allowed. no pr0n - but you knew that already.

• and another thing you should already know.. absolutely nothing illegal or against the rules of dA. all images must be your own - no stealing. do not copy anyone - obviously we understand accidentally having similar concepts, but just don't knowingly copy. we're dead serious.

(please note that for all the prizes [save for the subscription] we will need a mailing address. A Post Office box would work, since most don't give their home addresses to people online, but we assure you that we have much better things to do with my time than stalk you. if you absolutely cannot make an exception for this, you may still enter, just be prepared - if you win - to get a subscription or something else that doesn't require your address. :9 just keep in mind that your information is kept private and we promise not to give it away or sell it to anyone.)

entries

entries will be placed in both the journals of =ssecret and =DoNotAttempt, but please, do not be scared if you entry is not there right away, we will only update occasionally.

if you want to donate, just send =DoNotAttempt a note. it doesn't have to just be dA-related either - although journal features, subscriptions and prints are fantastic - you can also donate other things (like commissions, small photography equipment - like a polarizer or mini-pod, subscriptions to photography/art magazines, etc.)

(judges will be chosen by mady and myself, please don't ask to be one)
