Writers & Readers Connection (Issue 0)

~A-WildDog:iconA-WildDog: reports, April 25, 2007
Within the DA community amongst the vibrant portraits, the digital masterpieces and the snapshots of life lies a black and white alley of texts that often get passed by unnoticed by many and when it is noticed there is a distinct lack of Advanced Critique.
Whilst it’s always nice to have fans, people who enjoy your work and tell you how “cool” it is, it’s also nice (for those who want it) to get some constructive criticism on you work so that you may improve the piece and gain some input from a readers prospective.

With this in mind, this news article (and any future ones that many follow), aims to bring some of the texts that are in need of some advanced critique.
The writer/pieces featured are selected by myself (~A-WildDog) and ~Silvershark through a variety of processes. It maybe something we’ve read browsing around DA, something a writer has posted upon a request for pieces they might want featured here. Whichever process all writers featured want input, suggestions, thoughts from readers to help them improve their work.

What does giving advanced critique mean?

Honestly it’s not as hard as it may sound. First of all it’s important to read the text carefully, otherwise you won’t be giving your true opinion. After that there is some simple “rules” if you will:

- Say what you like about the piece
- Say what you don’t like about the piece
- Make suggestions on what you think could be improved and how
- Point out spelling or grammar errors

The latter may sound “nit-picky” but it will really help the writer as when reading your own work back you read what you thought you wrote and it’s easy to look over the small details sometimes. If there is quite a few you don’t need to point them all out individually just suggest the author take a careful look over their work.

There’s no need to be nasty with comments, keep it constructive and try to say positive things about the piece as well as negative.

Featured!

So without further ceremony here are the featured pieces. So grab yourself a drink, maybe a snack also and prepare to engaged you imagination accordingly to lose yourself in words. Don’t forget to leave some advanced critique!

~Silvershark’s pick: Ecce, Sum Christianus
A short piece of writing that neatly brings the reader into the Roman arena with beautiful descriptions and use of language. It is a piece that captures the mind and imagination.

:deva-wildodg:’s pick: Savaine
Chapter 1 of a promising story. A great descriptive yet mysterious start which with have you asking many questions of the characters and the story itself. Dark, Dangerous & definitely worth reading.

How do I get featured?
Simple look for forums posts asking for pieces you want featured or just note me (~A-WildDog) with “Writing AC Feature” in the subject line. If you are featured this time, you can still be featured next time with a difference piece, don’t be discouraged if you aren’t successful just try again next time.
- No mature content please. (i.e. Pornographic, pointless/horrific violence) ... use your common sense.-

If you liked this article then please do :+fav: it, comment and if you have friends who might be interested point them in this direction.

Happy reading!

Great job there. And I really support this. Also if Possible Guide people to groups like PoetryPlease and ProsePlease. And to Lit-Source as an additional resource.

We really need to bring the literature community together. And I'd be very glad if I could be of any help.

Carry on the good work.

Smile.
