Pimp Firefox for the best deviantArt experience

$ArtBIT:iconArtBIT: reports, Apr 26, 2007

-----------------------------------
- P R E F A C E -
-----------------------------------

Every now and then people ask me about some basic dA things like how to add a link to their page/deviation, how to make text bold, italic, etc and I just tell them to use deviantPlus extension for firefox by =Zikes.
And almost always get the same response: "Extension? Firefox? How can I get it?"
After dozens of explanations I've decided to make a journal entry, where I'd sum up all the stuff that people need to personalize Firefox browser to best suit their needs...
I'm not going to try and make you switch to Firefox. Nor that is my goal. My goal is to present you with all these handy extensions/scripts for it that our fellow deviants have made to make your whole deviantArt experience a lot more enjoyable.
I've chosen my browser. I've chosen Firefox. You don't have to, but spare a minute or two to read the rest of this article, at least to get acquainted with the possibilities it offers.

-----------------------------------
- W H E R E - T O - S T A R T ? -
-----------------------------------

First of all, Get Firefox (~5.7mb at the moment of writing this)
Install it and run it.
Next, you're going to install one of Firefox's numerous extensions, greaseMonkey extension (~40kb).
You'll need this, to be able to run many of the dA enhancements, which are basically just javaScripts, but they do pretty amazing stuff...
After installing greaseMonkey, you should restart your browser, so that the changes could take effect...

Now comes the fun part...(yay)... lets install some scripts!!! :boogie:
There's a ton of scripts, and this is only a selection I found to be MIGHTY useful...

-----------------------------------
1. deviantPlus by =Zikes
-----------------------------------

deviantPlus is a script that runs every time you visit deviantArt and attaches itself in a form of toolbar virtually anywhere where you can type on dA.
The toolbar has buttons for such things as common text enhancements (bold, italic, underline), hyperlinking, acronyms (hold mouse over this), subscript, superscript, strikethrough, monospace...
Also it helps with inserting images, links to deviants, thumbs etc...

Really powerfull add-on.
Thank you =Zikes

2. gallerySkip by `doofsmack
-----------------------------------

Ahhh.... You simply gotta love this one... ^^
When you view someone's deviation, this script adds a stripe of 5 thumbs from the same artist, just bellow the current deviation...
It has [next 5] and [previous 5] quick buttons and a link to the artists gallery as well...
This shiny pearl really quickens the browsing, and sometimes even intrigues you for the artists other work, when you had no time to go and check out his whole gallery...
Definitely a must have!

Thanks go to `doofsmack

3. deviantMessage by `bluespeed9
-----------------------------------

This is sweet... Your personal digital secretary ^^... Well kind of...
This Firefox extension, adds a field to your Firefox status bar and notifies you if you have any new messages on dA! Pretty neat, huh? ;)
`bluespeed9 did a fine job on this one...
Another, a must have!

Thanks go to `bluespeed9

4. deviantRandomLinks v0.2 by =ArtBIT
-----------------------------------

Well, large number of people on deviantArt are either totally unaware of the Random Deviation and Random Deviant links down there on the bottom of the page, or are too lazy to scroll down and use them on regular basis.
I believe that random deviant/deviation is a mighty tool which, with its invisible force, entwines and strengthens this awesome art community, so I made a simple script to move those two links up, in the main deviantArt rockdock bar, next to the friends button.
I hope that more people will use it this way.

Thanks go to =ArtBIT

5. deviantSkin by `bluespeed9
-----------------------------------

Ever wondered what to enter in the "Skin of choice:" field on your profile page?
Well now you will, cause this extension lets you completely change the looks and feel of the deviantArt site!!!
Yes, and there is a wast number of different looks for you to choose!
What are you waiting for?

Thanks again go to `bluespeed9

6. deviantLink by *ayembee
-----------------------------------

This is simply beautifull!
This extension, adds a deviantArt menu to your Firefox menubar, and a toolbar for quicker access!
It makes ALL the links to all of the important dA pages (Homepage, staff blogs, Hot topics, Features, Today...), Actions (Browse, Submit, Buy...), account links (Messages, Journal, Friends, galleries, orders prints...), RSS news, Chat, help, emotes..... EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Flawless... another A MUST HAVE!
