What a Vexel Is: The Official dA Definition

reports, July 7Influenced by recent dispute, it has been decided that it is time to make a solidified definition of what a vexel is by deviantART's terms. Please understand that this definition, and the rules along with it, are not made up from a few of the gallery moderator's thoughts, but built from the foundation of what the creator's words on 'vexel' were, and what the majority of the vexel community of deviantART has come to accept as a vexel. These rules are solid, final, and most-likely will not be faltered.

Fan Art - New Root Category

That's right it's true!
Why you ask? Well I'll be happy to explain..
The Root level galleries on deviantART are meant to be medium-based. However, with the launch of V5 we also introduced the new Anime/Manga gallery because we recognized that this increasingly popular genre had grown so immensely big.. it was it's own art form. The same holds true for Fan Art, so rather than continue to confuse the submission process with including it in every gallery and messing up our search functionality, it is far more logical to launch this way.
So where does that leave you? Well I'm glad you asked. I have closed all of the old Fan Art subcategories and redirected the art in them to the most logical spots in the new main gallery. Is it perfect? probably not because there are millions of deviations and new subcategories that may be more specific than the old ones. That being said, you can move your work around if you find a gallery more suitable.
