Grab Bag
I'm a firm believer that if you browse the galleries on a regular basis, they begin to speak to you. You notice trends, movements of art, and posting habits of talented artists. For a few weeks I've been debating cutting back on each of the three main sections as the trends led me in that direction. The creation of a Fan-art gallery also had a huge impact on this decision as large doses of art that were normally posted to the traditional and digital sections are now located elsewhere. I've also pondered if 45 main images and 4-5 for each featured artist was a bit much for people not on fast connections, so this decision wasn't spur of the moment.
Last week I promised that I wasn't going to dilute the main sections so my focus now will be to feature a more comfortable amount from the traditional, digital, and photography sections, but kicking up the quality as high as I can get it by being more selective in what gets featured here. I plan on digging just as much, maybe even deeper to bring each week a more diverse and talented collection.
I didn't want to strip the feature too much so I decided to add a section called "Grab Bag." Each week I plan on filling it with 4 or 5 images from any gallery on DA. It might be a collection of cartoons, wallpapers, or even designs & interfaces. If I find a great piece of art that has ten or less favorites, you might very well see it in this section. Diversity? You bet, but not lacking any quality in what ends up there.
Lastly, if you are an artist that has been here longer than a year, would you mind being one of the featured artists? I've always thought if this series as a way of bringing attention to people on the verge of becoming great artists, or who do not yet have a large enough following of watchers to vault their art above ten favorites consistently, even though their work deserves it. That was the goal but lately I've been finding art from veterans that have posted less and slipped from the mainstream. The result is some of their work gets buried along with the newcomers. Would you mind seeing them featured as well as newer artists? Please let me know what you think about it.

Devious Comments
You made an interesting point in your comments about selecting works to feature. Choosing works with fewer views regardless of how long someone has been around is a good idea. I have run into some stunning works by people that have been around for quite a while yet they have little traffic for whatever reason.

I'm not on the dark side ( they apparently have cookies?), but I have the milk so they need me from time to time.

It's time I got a new signature. I've been complaining about that retarded pheasant spanking itself on my windscreen for too long now.
