What a wonderful find for the world art community. I hope they wind up in a museum and not a private collection where we'll not be able to marvel at them.
The National Gallery of Scotland announced that the painting, "The Madonna of the Yarnwinder" by Leonardo da Vinci will go on display in the Gallery from today.
I read news articles with glee...there's something about putting together a myriad of stunning images that help expose unknown artists and just look pretty that warms my heart. So I thought it was about time for me to contribute!
I often browse the galleries and I found an area of DA that does not seem to get very much love - lino printing. Lino printing is an extremely versatile medium, I am constantly surprised by the range of styles and techniques that are possible! In the recent submissions I noticed so many stunning pieces that have little to no comments...so I decided to take action!!
Trusty old wiki told me a little bit about lino printing...the linocut was invented by the artists of Die Brücke in Germany between 1905-13. At first they described their prints as woodcuts, which sounded more artist-y and respectable.
Colour linocuts can be made by using a different block for each colour, as in woodcut or colours can also be done using the 'reductive' method (Picasso did this!).
Due to ease of use, linoprinting is widely used in schools to introduce children to the art of printmaking. But, as Picasso and Henri Matisse helped to establish, linoleum is also a respected medium for printmaking medium by professional artists as well.
Onwards we go!
Here is a small sample of the goodies that await you in the lino printing gallery here on DA! For maximum effect, take a look in fullview and please take the time to leave a thoughtful comment...I'm sure they would be much appreciated! Now I'll let the prints do the talking...
...I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes by making this news piece...I really enjoyed it! It's inspired me to start trying lino out again...

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

I have a pencil and I know how to use it.
I once asked for directions and they told me "You are here". Now if only I could find that on a map.
