S is for Series

*Cattereia:iconCattereia: reports, 9h 14m ago
Works in a series give the artist the ability to show more than just one perspective or emotion in a work. Working in such a way can also allow the artist to show time which can be difficult to show in just one panel.

The Nightmare Collection [Vol. 15]

^RockstarVanity:iconRockstarVanity: reports, June 2, 2007
Welcome to the 15th in the Nightmare Collection series. Up until now, I have only been featuring Horror & Macabre Photography, but I didn't want to leave out dark artists who specialise in other media, so from now on these features will include evil from other galleries too.

While I was browsing the galleries looking for images to feature here, I noticed lots of pictures that were submitted to the wrong place. It's important to put your work in the right gallery here so that people can find what they're actually looking for when they're browsing, and to keep the galleries organised properly. For this article (probably not future ones), I've included the gallery descriptions for each gallery (taken from the submission process). Its definitely worth familiarising yourself with these descriptions to make sure your work ends up in a home it feels comfortable in!

If you have a favourite dark/macabre/horror image that you'd like to see featured in a future Nightmare Collection, send me a note with a link. I'd love to feature other people's favourites, but please don't suggest your own work. I'd really like to feature dark/horror/macabre stock and brushes in a future article, so I'd especially appreciate suggestions from the resources gallery.

That's enough rambling for now. It's time to hide behind the couch and look at these scary pictures nervously through your fingers. Enjoy!

:star: PHOTOGRAPHY :star:
Pictures taken with a film or a digital camera featuring a very minimal level of digital manipulation. Photographs that feature a significant amount of digital manipulation should be filed under Digital Art: Photomanipulation.

Photography --> Horror & Macabre
Photographs with a focus on the frightening, grotesque and disturbing.

:star: DIGITAL ART :star:
Digital Art, unlike traditional, means artwork originally created via the use of digital tools that mimic traditional utensils such as computer imaging/3D software, digital pen & tablet, computer mouse, or any similar tools.

Digital Art --> Photomanipulation --> Macabre & Horror
The Photomanipulation section is dedicated to digital photographs that have undergone post processing and/or editing via the use of a graphical imaging software. The extent of manipulation should be prominent and noticeable in ways where it can be clearly distinguishable from the unaltered photograph. The Macabre & Horror section is for photomanipulations suggesting the horror of death and decay and/or instilling an intense, painful feeling of repugnance and fear should be placed here.

Digital Art --> Drawings --> Macabre & Horror
Digital Art done via the use of computer-aided drawing tools or the digital techniques are similar to those found in traditional drawings. The Macabre & Horror gallery is for drawings suggesting the horror of death and decay instilling a feeling of intense, painful feeling of repugnance and fear.

Digital Art --> Paintings & Airbrushing --> Macabre & Horror
Digital Art submitted in Paintings & Airbrushing are created via the use of digital tools that mimick those used in traditional ways of painting and airbrushing. The Macabre & Horror gallery is for paintings suggesting the horror of death and decay instilling a feeling of intense, painful feeling of repugnance and fear.

:star: TRADITIONAL ART :star:
This gallery is for work that has been produced using the traditional (or non-digital) mediums. Generally the only way to do this is to take a photo - this is entirely acceptable. The kind of images that should find their way here should clearly show the work of art and should avoid including objects not relating to the piece.

Traditional Art --> Drawings --> Macabre & Horror
Images created using traditional drawing methods such as graphite, charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, conte crayon and so on. Must not be created by computer; there are categories in the Digital Art gallery that are more appropriate for such submissions. The Macabre & Horror gallery is for drawings suggesting the horror of death and decay instilling a feeling of intense, painful feeling of repugnance and fear.

Traditional Art --> Paintings --> Macabre & Horror
Images created using traditional painting methods such as water color, acrylic paint, oil paint, egg tempra and other painting mediums. Must not be created by computer; there are categories in the Digital Art gallery that are more appropriate for such submissions. The Macabre & Horror gallery is for paintings suggesting the horror of death and decay instilling a feeling of intense, painful feeling of repugnance and fear.

Don't forget to visit the artists who've had their work featured here and check out the rest of their galleries!

Thanks for the support. I was going slightly mental with all the miscats I found while I was searching for images to feature, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to remind people about the gallery descriptions. Hopefully the new submission process layout will help people put things in the right place :)
