Ahm... I don't exactly know where to put this... I've never submitted a news article before.
Anyways, to the story already.
Do you know what is happening to the lynx species? No, right? Well do you even
know what a lynx is?
Of course you don't. You've probably never heard of it before.
You never see lynxes in children's stories, newspapers, books, or anywhere at all. And they know nothing about you. Half the people in this world have no idea that this beautiful and graceful creature even
exists. That's pitiful, isn't it?
And what's more is that they have little idea that every day, the entire lynx race is edging closer to the brink of extinction. I have read that there are only 500 lynx left in Europe, and considering that was written only a few years after I was born, I'd say there are even less of them now.
Oh, yeah, sure, nature fanatics all over the
world are doing just
tons of stuff to save the lynx and all that. Well you know what? That means that
you must not be able to find the time to pitch in a little bit. They're alone out there, people. It isn't a group effort anymore, is it?
Yep, go ahead and sit on your ass, stop reading this article and turn on the TV or something and just forget about it. Let it all fade away. But when your children ask you one day what lynxes were and why there aren't any more left, you will regret the day you took your eyes off of my words.
You had no idea - did you - that you might never know what a lynx was until they were all gone forever. In a matter of years the entire population could die out if things keep going on the way they are. And no higher power takes notice of this - oh yes, they know - but they won't do much of anything about it. Hundreds of people still shoot and skin lynxes as sport, perfectly aware that they are killing off an entire species. And nearly nothing is being done to stop them.
But will you?
If every person in this world gave up a dollar, that would be 6 billion dollars right there. Pocket change transformed into boatloads.
Now think about this.. If every person in the world realized the raw truth about the treatment of our wild animals - without putting it off for somebody
else to deal with, then we'd have 6 billion strong to help a population of 500, more or less, become what it used to be.
To read more about the endangerment of lynxes, and to get more facts, you may want to read this petition. (But don't sign it, it's rather outdated. I'll be looking for a new one. And if I can't find one... Then I'll make another! >8[ )

The lynx that lives in Spain (Lynx pardinus) is the feline species that is most threatened in the world... Less than 200 individuals left. It's dying because of its fragmented habitat and because they get runover by cars and because there isn't enough of their food where they live. I believe it's this lynx that you're talking about, because the Eurasian lynx is doing ok...
It's pretty sad that there are so many species that are about to get extinct yet people don't do anything. Yet, i tell you lynxes are ALWAYS in the newspapers in Spain. A lot of effort has been put into saving them...
A couple months ago some cubs were born, some died... It seems like there's not much hope for this species, but a lot of work is being done.
It's not all about the lynxes either... you talk about the lynxes, which true, they're not very famous but still there's a lot of conservation effort put into them. There's a HUGE list of species that are endangered... mammals, amphibians, insects, the world's losing its biodiversity and we're not doing anything about it!
Lynxes are just one of the thousand species affected. And no one cares, because they don't see the value of it. The mentality of this world has to change in order to do anything. We're too busy with getting degrees, buying houses and polishing the damn car.

It's good to know that some people care enough to make a difference when they've got the oppurtunity... But to me, it is so much worse when thinking about how many don't. That's why I wrote this article (even though I was in cahoots about this when I composed it).
What also saddens me is how so many movies are being made about penguins and the like - who have plenty of attention drawn to themselves already. Plus, there are plenty more that 200 penguins in this world... They can wait a little longer to be saved from their global warming threat.
Everything IS out of wack - as you said, the mentality of this world must change. If everybody keeps making mockeries of the serious issue that is endangerment - an example the recent flood of penguin movies like 'Surf's Up' - then the human population isn't going to be any more aware than they already are. It gives the suggestion that it's all a game and a movie to watch and be entertained by... But after that, we'll all go back to our busy-bee lives...
Yeah, I have so much more to say, but I gotta use the bathroom and I think I've gotten to my point already.
Thank you so much for commenting. <3

I know what you mean... Attention will always be around the typical/funny/beautiful species. Although the lynx is a gorgeous animal, it's always pumas, lions or cats or whatever that represent his family :/ So for most people unknown species just don't exist already. If they disappear they won't care.
A headline saying "The lynx is extinct" would mean for most people just one more cat gone... bleh.

Mm.. I've never heard that story, but whether it's true or not, I couldn't find any way to object to the possibility that a lynx might attack a person for food. There are certainly strict limitations on what a lynx would do, however, because after all, they're wild and are terrified of humans.
If any big cat was forced into hunger, and was about to starve to death, I'm sure they would be willing to kill anything they saw as potential prey. Now, if this lynx had encountered a person in a similar situation as that, but a perfectly healthy person, I doubt they would have attacked. Somebody delirious and suffering from sickness would be anything but unworthy prey to a lynx, or other big cat. So in my opinion, based on what I know, I'd say it's very possible that a lynx would have killed a person under such circumstances. However, if they had a choice about it, they would probably stay as far away from humans as possible.
Why do you ask, anyway? xD Just curiosity about the story?
