Weekly Help Desk Updates - July 18th, 2008

$hexentanz:iconhexentanz: reports, July 18
Welcome to the weekly Help Desk Updates. In these weekly updates we will attempt to bring you the most up to date news concerning the Help Desk & FAQ, as well as provide some helpful hints for super duper deviantART fun.

Free V6 Help

^Ikue:iconIkue: reports, July 11
Okay so if you haven't noticed V6 was launched late last night/early morning (depending on your time zone) to mixed reviews.

We as admins have had a little more time with it than the rest of the masses and as such I thought I would volunteer my knowledge with whomever is interested. Rather than complain that everything is different perhaps I can help show you how much more user friendly and easier the site is to navigate.

So... if you have a question concerning V6 please ask it. If you know of someone who is having troubles, please link them here. I will be updating this journal with your questions and hopefully answers to said questions.

Bug Juice Volume #19 - Weekly Bug Listing

$hexentanz:iconhexentanz: reports, June 8, 2007
We hope that this listing is as complete as possible, however sometimes bugs can occur after a 'Bug Juice' issue has been posted. In such cases these bugs will be posted to the Status Forum. If you do not find the bug you experience listed there, please contact the Help Desk, DO NOT USE THIS ARTICLE TO REPORT BUGS!

Introduction

Welcome to Bug Juice Volume Nineteen, the second weekly article delivered to you by the Help Desk Team.

This article is meant to serve as the current bug listing for users for issues on the main site, prints bugs will not be noted here. Bug Juice articles will repeat the bugs weekly until each issue is resolved and any new ones will be added when they arise, when an issue is resolved the bug will be crossed off and phased out of the listing the following week.

Links to this article will be mirrored in the Status Forum.

System

Now before we get started to help you better understand some of the Status Terms that will be used throughout this article we have compiled a listing of descriptions below.

Acknowledged - This means a case has been acknowledged as being present and will be worked on soon, but is not a high priority.

Assigned - This means the case has been assigned to a developer and is in review and will be worked on soon.

Closed - This means a report has been closed, either the issue will be worked on along with another one or the issue was found not to be present anymore or will not be fixed.

Feedback - This Status means a developer has requested further information from the administrator who filed the report before they can continue working on the issue.

New - This is a new report and has not been assigned to a developer yet.

Resolved - This issue has recently been resolved.

Clicking an underlined Status above will take you to that section.

The List

Assigned

1.) Opera Mood Issues - Mood chooser displays incorrectly in opera.

2.) Favourites Counter Off - For some users their favourite counter on a deviation reports being in the millions or thousands.

3.) Download Issues for Mac Users - This issue affects .abr files types, when a user selects download to desktop random code is displayed instead of giving the user the actual file.

4.) Inaccurate Deviation View Counts - For some users their deviation view counts report views being in the millions or thousands.

5.) Deviation Lag - There is currently a lag time of 6-24 hours, affecting newly added deviations, causing them to not show in your gallery immediately. This will also affect taking deviations out of storage, however there the lag will be longer. See [link] for more details.

6.) Deviation Editing Issues - Some users report not being able to edit their deviations.

7.) Browse by Newest Issues - When browsing by category often the newest option will fall several days behind only to correct itself and fall back a few days later.

8.) devWATCH Dropping Users - For some users with long listings the devWATCH is dropping users off of it.

9.) Activity Log not reporting 'all' Recent Data - Some activity such as recent comments on deviations or in forum posts is not showing up in logs.

10.) v4 Forum Threads Issues - Older forum threads in personal user forums report an internal server error when trying to post data to them.

11.) devWEAR Shipping Costs 0$ - For some users the devWEAR cart is not calculating proper shipping costs to you allowing you not to proceed. If this is happening for you, please note me with the City you are attempting to ship to.

12.) Search Issues - The Search feature is falling behind and not caching new data. Thus greatly affecting the search term by:username.

13.) Submission Issues - The option to submit .TIFF files at this time is not possible as it results in a corrupt file error, despite the file not being corrupt.

14.) devMobile Issues - After hitting send the site reports its under maintenance, the image still sends to your phone, but cannot be downloaded.

15.) Mature Content Issues - Mature content thumbs still display in journals and do not show the MC thumb.

Closed

1.) Non Latin Char Issues - Non Support causing issues all over. ( Will be fixed as soon as we switch to UTF-8 )

2.) Front Page Lag, not Updating as Often as it Should - Most users report this after having used the customize feature, however it is unrelated. This will often correct on it's own, only to return a few days later. ( Will be fixed along with another issue )

3.) Message Centre Issues - Message counters are inaccurate. ( Will be fixed in the new MSG Centre version )

4.) devWATCH Layout Change - Submissions are missing the date they were submitted and ordered incorrectly. ( Will be fixed in the new MSG Centre version )

5.) Downloadable Files from 2003-2004 Missing - You can read more by clicking here. ( Further details will follow soon )

6.) The letter P and Issues with P - Typing ';P results in an emote instead of plain text. ( Will be fixed as soon as we switch to UTF-8 )

Resolved

1.) Closed Forum Issues - When trying to post to a closed forum thread you will receive an internal error message, when it should instead report differently. (No longer happening after some changes)

2.) Server Issues awhile ago are Causing Incorrect Counts - Messages that were posted blank during the server issues this past week left data gaps when cleaned up, causing counts to be incorrect in journals, deviations, etc. (This issue has been cleared up for deviations, journals that were reported, if you have a deviation or journal affected by this and want it corrected, please contact the Help Desk with a link and be sure to refer to this message)

3.) Today Page Issues - The popular deviants sections is frozen.

4.) Notes Issues - In Firefox only when deleting notes if one decides to click on cancel instead of ok the process does not terminate. (Corrected when journal deletion issues were)

5.) Browse Newest Issues #2 - When using the search if one clicks on newest it will actually display deviations from oldest to newest instead.

6.) Author Tag Issues - Author tags no longer show up for IE users.

Q&A

FAQ #722: Why do certain bugs take longer than others to be fixed?

FAQ #723: How come things are not better tested before they are released?

FAQ #724: Why do you put out new features when things are broken?

In Closing

If you see an issue in the listing above you can safely assume that no further reports are needed at this time, unless otherwise noted. :)

I hate to point this out, but the popular deviants on the Today page did update, but has been stuck with those numbers for at least three days now.

Thanks for the update.

My apologies in advance, but I've not been able to find where it's been reported about the category submission problem I and and some others have encountered.

Problem: Digital art > painting > fantasy>
ends up in Anthro category and can not be changed via edit.
I had to place my recent deviation in surreal category for the time-being.

(Happened with the submission before my most recent one as well.)

I use the latest Firefox browser.

Again, if this is already in the forums or elsewhere, I couldn't find it.

Thanks.

There is nothing on the issue because it is not a bug. If you look in FAQ #800: I submitted my deviation to X category but it ended up in another one. Why is this? it explains that each category you select reflects submission only, where they will end up in the browse pages is different, but can be seen by clicking on the gallery info button. If this is not where you would like your piece in the end you will need to select something else.

The AR Team is also aware of this category option being a little strange and is working on it as fast as they can.

Hello! It seems there is a problem with search.

Last 5-6 months I was searching some pics using tags "Tima" or "Metropolis" on DevArt. Usually the result was some hundreds for "Tima" and thousands for "Metropolis", so I had some workdays to dig into it. :D

But last days I got result of 70 for "Tima" and about 300 for "Metropolis", and many-many popular cool pics disappeared! What happened? :(
