Unfortunately, it seems that the photography community of dA is being neglected. It has hit an all-time low!
What happened?! When I joined dA in 2004, I was wide-eyed with wonder because I found such good artists whose works left me speechless. But the photography community here has stagnated since then. When I browse through dA now I see that it's the same people that get all the attention, their works following a certain pattern. It's either beautiful landscapes with saturated colors, self-portraits with unrealistically pore-less skin, and the ever-so-popular macro shots of eyes, water droplets and other biological organisms. The new stuff are the old stuff. It's nice and pretty at first but then after years of the same thing, it just gets sickening.
I'm not writing because I don't like the work of the popular artists nor am I a bitter artist in dire need of attention. I am doing this because I would like some fresh blood to spill on the dA front page. I want to see new artists, new work, fresh ideas!
Recently, I have been browsing hoping to find a good photo DD (Daily Deviation), but all I found were stock-photos and a pattern of nude photography. I have nothing against these genres, but there is so much more out there than just stock & nude photographs. This brings me back to my main point, the photography community here is being neglected and that's really unfortunate for us photographers.
I remember that other photographers have tried to stop this from happening. Some have even been banned for expressing their opinions in due to lack of diplomacy. That's too bad because dA lost talented artists to other art communities and what's worse is that the lost talent is not being replenished! The community continues to stagnate.
I am trying to do my share to improve this community. When I was a subscriber, I featured unknown artists (other much popular artists have been doing this, and kudos to them) and sent out DD suggestions. Now, I have been sending DD suggestions and am currently working on a dA Chat-Group for photographers to gain attention in this community by exhibiting their work to a larger audience of fellow photographers and art appreciators,
PhotoExhibit with ~
imarcano. But, it's not easy. The DD suggestions have remained unread by the gallery directors and
PhotoExhibit is just days old, still trying to put itself together and gather supporters. We would highly appreciate if you decide to support our group.
Please, do what you can to improve the photography community in this site.
With that, I would like to leave you with a few thumbs from people who have been working hard to put together
PhotoExhibit.

Maybe, dA should get more volunteers to improve these conditions.

People's opinions are just that, opinions, make sure your opinion is the one you take the most heed of.
by the way, would greatly appreciate it if you

Being one of those 'dreaded' nature lovers (
Quite obviously you have very different tastes that aren't all that agreeable to me, but that doesn't necessarily mean either of us are right OR wrong, or that one of us is any 'more' or 'less' artistic than the other.
To each his/her own.
I wish you all the best with your club...even if it is promoted at the expense of others.
i stand with you on trying to bring fresh, new ideas into the mix. good luck with the chat group!

turntablism | graff art | bboyin | emcee'in ....represent the true hip hop.
As of May 2007 the site consists of over 4.5 million users and over 37 million submissions, and receives around 60,000 submissions per day.
The beauty of deviantART is in its freedom, people can submit what they want as often as they want, with no fear of being "heckled". We can't deny those we judge to be "less-talented" the right to believe they are, in fact we should encourage them to become better at their craft. If I never submitted my crappy deviations, I would have never gotten the feedback needed to improve, and thus create more popular and imaginative art. The same goes for photography.
Taking pictures is more than operating a camera, which anyone can learn. I always make a point to help beginning photographers (trust me, I'm no pro) achieve more appealing compositions, or help them how to adjust color properly.
60,000 submissions a day. Not sure how many of those are photographs, but I'm sure they are many. If all of them were great, no one would appreciate them, because then they wouldn't stand out.
Besides, being "new" is like sooo "old"! LOL
