Weekly Help Desk Updates - June 21st,2007
Introduction
Welcome to the weekly Help Desk news. In these weekly updates we will attempt to bring you the most up to date information, as well as provide some helpful hints for super duper deviantART fun.
Hexe's Corner
Last week I started going through the FAQ seeing what entries needed screenshot helpers and which did not. But then I decided who am I to judge what users may or may not have trouble with? I bet you are now thinking, but hexe you're the Help Desk Manager, who better to decide this? But this method of thought is shall we say, 'wrong', because I am no longer a new user, I know the site well and can follow each FAQ entry with ease. So with this said I have decided on a fun little project the community could get involved with, so over the next week this is the plan.

If you ever came across an entry that you believe could use a screenshot to help you the user out better,
note me with a link to it and I will see it gets added by next weeks end.
Ewm's Corner
This week I would like to discuss the difference between
emoticons and
moods. Both of these features use emoticon images but use them differently. Due to the similarities, I have noticed that sometimes users get the two features confused.
The emoticon feature allows users to place emoticon images into their comments, journals, forum threads, and on dAmn. In order to do this you use codes that are provided in the emoticon legend found throughout the site. This legend is found under most commenting fields. When looking at the list you will see various images of the emotes with a code next to them which you use to create this emote. Do not forget the colons! For any emotes that have
: on either side this is the most important part to make your emoticon work.
The mood feature is a way of displaying your current "mood" when posting a comment. This emote will be displayed in the upper right hand corner of your comment. The mood feature can be found in a column to the right of your "Devious Thoughts" comment box.

Of all cases that come through the
Help Desk the hardest ones to resolve can sometimes be the vague ones! Not enough information results in two things: a drawn out process to fish out the details and a delay in fixing the problem. While filing a ticket make sure you're giving us as much information about the issue as you can. Including things like
links or
screenshots of the problem in action can make all the difference if you're unable to put it to words.
"I'm having problems with my messages." and
"I'm having problems with my messages. They won't delete when I tell them to. And if I refresh my message center the deleted messages show up again." both say the same thing, but one gives us the weapons we need to jump into battle and help you come out victorious over the issue.
Tickets in which all the essential information missing take more time to sort out. But, tickets sent with the details of the problem get processed and return you back to happy dA-ing as quickly as possible!
