The Summer Invasion rolls on

Yep, the n00b invasion remains around, and all forums are crushed under a slew of avatarless posters. Maybe not so bad, but essentially forum activity has slowed.

Which is my way of saying, that's all the news this month!


Enhance your foruming

I thought this month I'd feature some of the extensions available for deviantART that can assist in forum-posting.

Remember, for all of these you will need Firefox and Greasemonkey

Part of the deviantEXPERIENCE series, DeviousMorning brings up the first 10 forum threads of whatever forums you select into your message centre. Essential for the lazy forumer. Clicking on the main forum listing is so last century.

This is a neat extension that shrinks and tightens dA, making it more like the streamlined v4. Of course, it works well for the forums and tends to avoid the dead space that leads to unnecessary scrolling.

deviantMESSAGE by `bluespeed9


This extension displays message centre on your status bar, so you can always know how many messages you have at one time.


Forum Lessons!

Lesson 3: Making a good thread

Ultimately, it's the replies which make a good thread. But there's a few pointers you can follow to make a thread better.

Particularly in Deviants, make sure there's a good point of discussion. Don't just type something random, make a discussion


Expand! Don't ramble on for ages, but make sure there's at least a good paragraph in your opening post that gets your point across


As mentioned in previous lessons, use good spelling and grammar. The easier your thread is to understand, the more interest it will gather.


Lurk for a bit. Make sure your thread isn't such a dead horse it'll stink out the whole forum.
