hello everyone
this is my first news, so be gentle
i myself have just gone through at least 3 months of hell and stress after applying for university.
its one of the most stressful times of year other then exams for young people and students.
many of us panic and cant help but wonder what the interview is going to be like.. but how can you really be ready for an interview?
well from my experience and other peoples i am going to go through a brief intoduction of what questions are likely to be asked.
(i proberly should have done this months ago for the upcoming interviews, but some of us are still going to them and there is always next year).
question one, the most likly to be asked.
why have you applied to this course?
well the thing you should never say is, well i applied to another course and didnt get in! (if you have applied elsewhere)
Its all about how they are going to help you, and how you are 100% commited, so tell them that, and make sure they know that this is the course you have dremt about since you left school. remember its three years of your life, you need to let them know you wont give up after the first.
question two.
why photography, or art, or graphics or whatever you have applied for
well hopefully this is the easiest question, you know why you love what you do, so just talk about it and let that excitment you have for it shine through, keep talking until they tell you to stop if you have to.
never say anything like, im bored, i want to do a course that dosnt have an exam at the end, my parents want me to do this course.
question three
talk about your work
after these two questions they normally ask you to talk about your work
, try to make sure your portfolio is organised and has a flow to it, even revise talking through it the day before.
if you get stuck at somthing, the best tactic is to lead that on to another part of your work or why you have done it.
you need to know why your work is good, why you do what you do, and technically why it is good. why it works ect.
also a good thing to talk about is how it effects other people.
question four
what artists/photographers, designers inspire you and your work?
if you cant talk about other artists, then you wont get a place, you need to know the importance of historical and contempory art, you cant do this without looking at others work.
a friend of mine didnt get a place in uni simply because she said she didnt like contempory photography.
its always a good idea if you havnt already, to revise an artist or two, learn about there work, and why you like it, but most importently it has to inspire your work, every artist has got there insperation from another artsist throughout history.
i know contextual studies is boring in school/college, but it comes in handy at an interview. so know your artists/photographers ect.
