First, there was black and white film. Then photograph became tinted. Then finally colour (color) film came around. Ever since then, the world became divided between those who think colour (color) is the way and those fidels, who would rather die than use colour (color). Alright now, its not that bad, but people do seem to take sides. So let us see some of the pros and cons of both:
The two components of a picture:
a) shape
b) colour (color)
Now, this being an opinion piece, i'd say the reason why in schools they always have the students learn to do black and white photography first, in order to get used to having better compositions. Or perhaps it's because black and white film costs less, i'm still trying to decide
In these examples, the shapes of the contents are well emphasized and thats about all that really truly mattered. Let me tell you why. Sometimes a picture indeed has such amazing composition that no more is needed. Colour may not harm, but it is not needed. Sometimes however, colour can actually bring the value of a photograph down, especially if under or over exposed
Now to colour.
Now these images above, some of them have good composition, some alright composition. But I do think it is pretty obvious to see that it is the colour in them that really gives them their value and that without it they would be less of a picture.
It is interesting to look at different pictures and to imagine them in colour as opposed to in black and white. For some it doesn't matter much in which format they are, but for others it can be an inimaginable difference.
Devious Comments
its so much easier to get a good b/w pic in digital than colour, because of the smaller range. but im sure bw film had way more range than bw digital had
thanks for the comment

I was poor.
Now I am found by the source of all riches.
I'm just starting out in photography, always nice to see something that can help me
