This is one of my favorite gallerys in DA, because I'm a fashion design major and I like seeing what other people are designing. Sadly, the gallery is filled with miscats as well as work submitted with the right idea in mind that isn't presented well.
I do my share of reporting miscats. But that doesn't fix the problem at it's root. So I decided to write a news article explanining what belongs and what doesn't. Even though If people were too lazy to read the gallery descriptions they most likly also won't read this. But I'll try anyways because I'm optomistic like that.
There are 2 section in "Designs & Interfaces > Fashion"
They are:
Fashion Design and
T-Shirt Graphics
Let's start by looking at the gallery description for Designs & Interfaces as a whole
"The Designs & Interfaces gallery focuses on practical and functional design rather than art-for-art's-sake. Designs that are made to be publicly displayed, whether it be a CD cover or body art belong in here. Additionally, application interfaces and web design also fall under the umbrella of functional design. Note that the Designs & Interfaces gallery is intended for static submissions; interfaces designed using the Macromedia Flash platform belong in the Flash gallery."
I bolded the most relavent parts. I think that's pretty self explanatory. So I won't go into more detail on that part.
Now let's look at Designs & Interfaces > Fashion
"Fashion design materials (including t-shirt designs). Finished clothing or displays of textiles that have been made or can be worn should be placed in the Artisan Crafts: Textiles section. Also, if you're making a t-shirt for the Bandmerch program, please submit it in the appropriate gallery."
I have bolded part. So if you just sewed a pretty dress that you designed, it does not belong in this category. Even if you designed every little detail of it it belongs in Artisan Crafts.
Let's see the description for Designs & Interfaces > Fashion Design
"Fashion design is the communication of fashion designs through drawing. This is where ideas and details for Fashion Designs (finished clothing) and collections are shown in forms of drawings, sketches and digital painting. Please do not submit photos of finished garments here, please submit those to the Artisan Crafts gallery."
Basically there is no reason for photos to ever be in this gallery. It should only be illustrations of garment designs. Finished 3d garmets go in Artisan Crafts.
Here're some examples of things that belong in this category:

Now let's move on to Designs & Interfaces > Fashion > T-Shirt Graphics
This one has some trickyness to it so I can see why people get confused. The gallery description is not super clear.
Here's the description
"Graphic illustrations designed specifically to be on T-shirts. For a deviation to qualify for this gallery, it must be displayed in its applied form and as normally designed."
To me a very key part is this short description is "must be displayed in its applied form". If this isn't followed (and people frequently ignore this part) the gallery looks like a mish-mosh of random images with nothing in common. In it's applied form means that it should be shown how/where it would be on the shirt. The same image could be located in infinate diffrent ways and sizes on a shirt. Just uploding a picture of something you want on a shirt and calling it a t-shit design doesn't cut it for me. You should put it on a t-shirt like this
Now you might think "
but making the t-shirt shape is hard"
Lucky for you @
madnessism was nice enough to make templates that you can use for your t-shirt designs.

Don't forget to credit @
madnessism if you use the templates.
Another thing you might be thinking is
"But if I put it on there it is harder to see the full design because my design is small in proportion to the t-shirt"
If you feel that way then you can put a larger version of the design next to the tshirt. This design here shows this idea very well
One thing that is unclear to me from reading the gallery descriptions is this.
Is posting a image of your t-shirt graphic design printed on the actual shirt okay?
If we go back and look at the gallery description for the parent directory "Designs & Interfaces > Fashion" we see the line
"Finished clothing or displays of textiles that have been made or can be worn should be placed in the Artisan Crafts: Textiles section."
The thing is that with T-shirt Graphics the designer isn't making the shirt in most cases. They're silkscreening or using some other method to get the graphic onto a store bought t-shirt. So In my opinion it's okay to place it there if the shirt was store bought and the art focus is on the graphic. But I'm not the gallery director so I have no authority. But pieces like that don't seem to ever get moved out of this section and i feel like they fit in well there.
It's best though if you do this to not just show a close up of the graphic so that it is hard to tell that it is on a t-shirt. Make it clear where on the shirt the graphic is placed just like when you are presenting it in illustration form.
I hope this helped people and at least in a tiny bit fixes the amount of misplaced art in this section.

I've actually wondered this myself, even though I don't submit to the gallery. I have learned something, thanks to this. Let's hope, as you said, that this will help cut down on some miscats to this gallery.
