Its common knowledge the literature isnt the most popular kind of deviation here on DA. Even though Im sure a lot of people like to read if they dont write themselves.
This can make it difficult for a writer to get some advanced critique on their work, along with the cliché rabbit caught in headlights look people get when they see the Advanced Critique Encouraged sign when strolling merrily down the secluded country road of Literature. Thinking fast to avoid embarrassment or some horrific scene they bold for the safety of mainstream DA.
However Advanced Critique on writing is rocket science. In the last article I covered the bare basics on how to do so (
[link] ) but now what does a writer really want to know about their work? Will what you say offend them?
First all its unlikely youll offend them, just keep in mind constructive criticism should be helpful not hurtful.
Writers do like feedback on the work and of course its nice to know that youve entertained someone for the period of time they were reading but what writers also like to know is how it made you (the reader) feel and maybe why you feel that way. Was it a character? Was it the atmosphere? Or where you just so drawn into the piece as a whole youd quite forgotten yourself for a moment or two.
What about the descriptions? Do they work their magic and form the image correctly?
How about the dialogue? Does that run smoothly?
Does the piece get its point across (if of course it does have one) effectively?
In the case of a twist in the plot Did you see it coming?
In the case of a story or a continuing piece of writing Do you feel you want to read more of it? Are you eager to read more?
And overall how to you (the reader) interpret the piece. Again writers wont be annoyed with you if you interpret it wrongly because lets face it everyone interprets things differently especially when a piece draws on so many different life experiences. So dont worry about it, write away on
your interpretation of the piece. In the end you might end up giving the writer a whole new angle to look at their work from.
Also dont forget if something above wasnt good about the piece say so, explain why and tell the writer what you think would make it better.
Now that youve disarmed your flee instinct for this area, put your fight one into action and start critiquing!
Featured!
All writers featured here actively want Advanced Critique on these pieces and none of these pieces are of adult content.
Of course everyone likes to read different things, so as well as the poetry/prose sections, you will also find the pieces genre listed.
Please do take the time to read at least one or two of these pieces and leave you comments for the writers, I assure you they will be greatly appreciated.

Of course these writers may have others that you might be interested in their galleries so I encourage you to venture into their galleries or indeed browse the DA literature sections.
Have fun reading, critiquing and interacting with writers/readers!
Want to be featured?
Its simple to get featured. You can either note me (~
A-WildDog) with Writing AC Feature in the subject line or look out for one of my posts around the forums and reply. Strictly NO mature content (i.e. Pornographic, pointless/horrific violence) and if you could add the genre to your message as well that would be helpful.

Anyway, glad you like it. I like this layout much better, it looks tidier.

^^* I appreciate what you're doing, I'm sure everybody else does too.
Always good to know someone's trying to start an advanced critique trend
