The Anti-Cliché Contest
An anti-cliché is a literary device or figure of speech that twists the meaning or phrasing of a known cliché. Although not named as such by literary critics, many writers, comedians, and poets have made use of the anti-cliché to provide a memorable and often ironic phrase, line, or passage.
~ from wikipedia ~
As many of you know, there is a persistent rumour that photomanipulators
- always use a girl as the centre of attention, preferably in a beach setting
- love to use cloudy/stormy skies, held in monochromatic blue
- are obsessed with different kinds of skirts
- add sparkles for effect
- are fascinated by wings
- like to put one texture over the whole picture, the more obvious the better
- smudge over everything to give the illusion of a hand painted detail
- use a lonely tree as the main focus should there be no girl available
- just cut & paste and use filters to make the pictures match
- love to make things glow by using layer styles
- use animals only to cross a crocodile with a cat
- have an obsession with butterflies and birds, crows in particular
And the list goes on...
Not every cliché is true, not all should be avoided at all times. And not everyone accusing someone else of using clichés should be listened to.
But for this contest, the goal is to prove that these clichés are not the only things that can be done with photomanipulation! So be creative and show us what you can do in your favourite imaging program that either avoids all clichés or uses them with a new twist (which might be considerably harder and just might give you some extra points in the end).
Deadline: August 17th 2007

* Your submission has to adhere to the gallery description of the photomanipulation gallery:
The Photomanipulation section is dedicated to digital photographs that have undergone post processing and/or editing via the use of a graphic imaging software. The extent of manipulation should be prominent and noticeable in ways where it can be clearly distinguishable from the unaltered photograph.
Please Note: All images submitted to this section should be altered in such way that it is clear you have used techniques other than a filter and/or alteration in the colour of the original. Rather than into the photomanipulation gallery, these pictures should be submitted to Photography>Darkroom or Digital Art>Miscellaneous. Also note that drawing or writing on top of a picture does not constitute as a photomanipulation. These deviations should go into Photography, Digital Art>
aintings & Airbrushing or the Cartoons & Comics sections for example. Which category is best suited to your deviation depends on what technique dominates in your deviation. If you have used a mixture of techniques, Digital Art > Miscellaneous. Vectorized versions of your pictures belong into Digital Art>Vectors or Vexels respectively. For more information on the nature of the other categories, please read their descriptions!
