"Letters presuppose a sort of authenticity, and I truly believe that a story—no matter the form—needs to be authentic and believable.

"Sometimes I wish I had stories such as "I wrote my first published poem at three and a half!" or "I started writing stories at two!", but writing never came easy for me and is still not very easy for me.

The Use of Adverbs in Fiction Writing

=DarcKnyt:iconDarcKnyt: reports, August 29

They're also indicative of weak writing ... but why? This article covers why adverbs are evil and what you can do to avoid using them.

:spotlight-left: SOUNDZINE Announces the Winner of the Gender Bender Monologue Competition :spotlight-right:

It was a tough call. Our judges sweated this one out. The hardest part to this competition was the fact it was a Winner-Takes-All. But we've got a winner, and we think it's a great one! Their monologue has been produced and published in our new issue of Soundzine. Plus, they get a 6 month subscription to dA, generously donated by `coshdaddy, and a $15 gift certificate to Amazon Books.

Our Grand Prize Winner is:

:iconlefttowrite: *lefttowrite

for her monologue Surviving Her. It was chosen for quality writing, a very believable voice, good attention to pacing and plot, and wicked humor.

Honorable Mention goes to the following excellent writers. We loved their work, and we aren't even going to go into how much hair we pulled out trying to make a decision. They are as follows, in RANDOM order:

:iconabcat: *AbCat for The Gender Bender Monologue.
:icongeneratinghype: `GeneratingHype for They Were Women Then.
:iconsrsmith: =SRSmith for Male Like Me.
:iconcut-devil4: *cut-devil4 for I'm A Sports Addict.

Thanks to all who participated, and congratulations to *lefttowrite, and to our Honorable Mentions.
