A competition for the Summer! With monthly prizes! Win socks! Or Other things! Or Fame and glory! Or a subscription to DA! or the right to work as a slave for a year! (OK, kidding on that one).
I'm looking for pictures - photos, drawings, paintings, sculpture, anything original - of old (antiquarian) books, that can be used to encourage people to think about books in any way, or as clip or stock art, or to promote the love of books.
For some samples of pictures, see
[link]
Ideally the books will be from the 1920s or earlier, although they don't actually have to be leather-bound. Images must be at least 1024x768 pixels in size; I'd prefer larger.
There will be prizes each month until the end of September, including a free subscription to deviantart.
Also, the winner each month will be featured on the front page of
www.fromoldbooks.org for three months; the overall winner will be featured for a full year. You can have a link to your DeviantArt page or to your own Web site (as long as it's not a porn site or a Republican propaganda page

)

ooks is a popular (Google Pagerank 8) Web page, and the site gets over a million visits a month; this may create quite a bit of exposure for you in additional hits from search engines. Send me a private note if you would rather not be featured, or if you would like help on making your Web site search-engine friendly, when you submit an entry.
Copies of all the entries may (at the discretion of the judges) be featured on the fromoldbooks
gallery, together with full credits to the creator(s) and links back as appropriate.
I would like a non-exclusive right to use your entry in any way, including promoting fromoldbooks.org or in prints, and including letting people download the image from FromOldBooks and use it in any way; it's non-exclusive so it doesn't stop you using your own work, and I'm not asking to take away your copyright. This lets me put the pictures on the gallery at FromOldBooks.org, for example. You can use a Creative Commons license if you like.
How to enter: You can send me a note here on DA with the URL for a deviation (it must be one to which you own the copyright, or that you (or the creator) has clearly placed in the public domain), or send email to liam at holoweb dot net with the image as an attachment, or the URL of the entry, together with all the details. If you email me, include the word "competition entry" and also "socks: green" (or socks: black, or whatever colour you are wearing, or, socks: none, barefoot!) to get past my spam filters.
I (and possibly my husband, a professional artist) will judge the entries; the judge's decisions are final. No purchase necessary
