`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

The Dragon's Tips #2

~brozedragon45678:iconbrozedragon45678: reports, July 16, 2007
This is the second edition of my tips for writing an effective piece. The topic in this issue is all about beta readers.

First off, you may be asking what a beta reader is. A beta reader is basically a partner or group of people who read your work and catch the errors in your work.

Now you’re scratching your head wondering why this is important. This is important for a few reasons. If you are writing poems, this is a good idea because people will ask questions about the concept of the poem and what idea this came from. If you write prose pieces, this is a very good tool to use. You can catch any errors in your work, you are able to get good ideas bounced back and forth about your storyline and you can make new and exciting friends.

Pick beta readers that you can trust. You may have given them a messenger account or an e-mail address. If you can trust them with an account, you can trust them to give you very good feedback on your writing.

Pick a beta reader that will answer you quickly. Two to three days max is what should be allowed to get your work to them, have it read and the feedback in your hand.

These are good tips to making your work better.

-Bronze Dragon

Yeah, but I would suggest that a longer time is fine.

Really, a lot of people don't have a ton of free time... soo if they can't get it to you that fast, it's ok

that sounds like a great idea, but i agree alot of people dont have alot of time.
~AnastaziaNicoli:iconAnastaziaNicoli: Jul 16, 2007, 11:09:04 PM
I agree with the time situation sis. You know I would gladly read your works....if I had the time to.

This is a great idea though. I really like the thought of having a group of people read your work and check for errors.

First off, thanks again for the response.

I posted the time thing as this is how long it usually takes. I know how life can be, and as a beta reader for other works, this is what they usually require.

Everything you see has been made by me: Amber. If you can't take the fact I make all my stuff and write my own things....get over it. I like making my art, my way. I like being me.

Now this is something I never thought of. I usualy just submit as soon as I'm finished with a piece. I don't have any idea who I'd ask though. There are a few people I can trust here but most are busy and I don't know if they would have the time.
