Upgrades Complete, Info to Know

$spyed:iconspyed: reports, July 19, 2007
Quickblog.

We've completed a series of upgrades to the deviantART backend. You should have experienced lagging thumbnails most of the day yesterday as we switched serving to a CDN temporarily to allow for a pretty big burst in growth.

The burst, and the super speed you should already be experiencing but will definitely experience over the coming weeks is due to a major upgrade to our database clusters and an addition of a series of webservers.

For a while now we've been overloaded especially during peak hours. The congested times have lasted for approximately 8 hours per day for the past month or so.

Since the upgrades completed, we've seen a complete resolution to the 8 hour time period in the graphs and an estimated 16% growth in our average hits per second.

Which is exteremely exciting. :)

We are slightly concerned with some stability issues which will be easily resolved if they arise, so expect mild turbulance as these new changes are taking effect. Thumbnail serving will recover completely for all within 3 more days. Thumbnail serving currently should be operating at close to 90% growing over 3 days to 99%.

This has been your first ever update from Costa Rica.

Surfs up I'm out. ;)
