I have often had people ask me "what is oekaki"? Well, it's a Java applet, which is rather simple, containing all the basic tools plus a couple of extras. PaintBBS, for example, has only two layers. Still, that doesn't stop people from creating some incredible work with the applets!

Because this is the focus of my own gallery, I have chosen to feature other artists who paint realism in oekaki, which requires a great amount of patience and technical ability.

There is some amazing oekaki talent here on deviantART, and these artists really show off what the applets are capable of. Here's a selection of realism oekakis from around the site - I recommend checking the artists' galleries too as they have many more amazing works!
