Photo-Manipulation Love!

=ClockworkDesigns:iconClockworkDesigns: reports, 1d 7h ago
These are photo-manipulations that have been chosen based on the amount of creativity put into them or the type of techniques used to create such eye candy. Some of these people are fairly unknown and I wanted to give them an opportunity to be seen by the public. Please show the artists your support! :D

Open Source Art

~mkr:iconmkr: reports, August 9, 2007
Blender - 3D for the rest of us.

Perhaps the most misunderstood open source package, Blender is a shining example of what happens when artists decide to develop something, and have a vested interest in getting it right. It comes complete with UV editing, rigging, animation, composition, rendering, and more features than could be properly listed here.

The GIMP - Image editing on a budget.

The ultimate misnomer; The GIMP is the perfect compliment to Blender. It lacks some of Photoshop's features, but these can be added with plugins.

There are too many good sites to list - your best bet is to google for them.

Inkscape

Need a good, multi-platform vector editor?

Yafray

Blender's built-in renderer not good enough? No problem! Yafray is an excellent alternative to more expensive renderers. Support for this is built in to Blender, but you can use the more up to date external version.

Python

A free, powerful, open source scripting language. Blender has a limited built-in version, but you'll need to install this if you want to get the most out of Blender.

I don't like the title, it is misleading. Something like "Open Source for Art" would have been more appropriate.
I do like the content! =) Nice idea to provide links to tutorials too.
As someone points out, this is not news, but it doesn't reduce the usefulness of the article. Lot of people overlook the power of open source!

82% of statistics in signatures are made up. :rip: (This is a recursive signature...)
Spreading them is un-original and sheepish. If you agree, copy this in your... wait, no! :D
No to signature clichés! You are on an art site, be creative!
