Expressive Comics:
This is a Comics feature celebrating the work of artists whose work I believe represent a beautiful and original diversity within Comics, and whose work can inspire others to try something new.
In the vein of comic book artists such as Dave McKean, Ashley Wood and Ben Templesmith to name but a few, these Deviants demonstrate in their work a new and exciting style within the world of Comics.
Not sticking to clean-cut lines and clear colouring that is often seen as the typical comics style, they make use of a huge range of both digital and traditional techniques, creating highly original and rich comic book pages. Their painting and drawing often has a definite impressionist and expressionist quality, and they make use of working over textures, combining collage, using mixed media, ink, charcoal, pastels
It is rare to find artists who utilize such techniques within Comic and Cartoons here on DeviantArt. This is a subject very close to my heart, and I love to see this diversity within this art form. I hope that their work can inspire others.
I think its time to celebrate these largely unknown artists:
1. Almost ghostly comic pages, executed in a near photo realistic but soft and expressive style, by *

2. Beautiful sepia ink wash and black ink outlined comic, about a little girl called Celest, her elderly relative aptly named Aunty Grim, and Celests five pet monkeys, by ~

3. Inky expressive comic pages by ~

4. Absolutley beautiful pencil crayon, biro, pastel, watercolour and acrylic works (you name it!), featuring semi-abstracted and distorted figures on pages that are truly a feast for the eyes.

5. Gunnmgally is pretty well known here in DeviantArt, but I think that its important to show her work here, and to note her expressive use of mediums within digital art. Her use of colour is also brilliant, along with her brilliant diversity between each frame. *

Although these two Deviants havent been active in months, their work is still incredible and worth noting; and of course remains inspiring. Lets hope that they come back one day.
6. Wonderfully expressive Graphic Novel stills. This guy literally has 9 page views. His work of dribbling colour and splashes and spattered ink create close to home and often unnerving images. Just beautiful work, showing an interesting and varied use of traditional techniques. ~

7. Incredibly dark and poignant work, often relating to important worldly issues and terrifying historical events that we will never forget. A brilliant worker of traditional formats, and combining these with digital and collage, his work comes together to form a dark and twisted, and overall thought provoking atmosphere, by ~

I hope to make this a regular feature, so please let me know your thoughts and if theres anything that I can do to improve this article.
Please also send me your suggestions for more Deviants and their Deviations.
If you enjoy it, dont forget to give it a

to get these people the exposure that they deserve.
Thank you!

I think you do nothing of consequence if you try and please some amorphous audience. I think you really have to do work that you like, and hope that people will come along for the ride. - Dave McKean
