BUTTER! A story of DA's new "socialist movement"

The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing...
A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!

Online Safety

=KatiBear:iconKatiBear: reports, August 17, 2007
:pc: Online Safety

Okay, I actually came across this through my unhealthy obsession with Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bear from Heroes). But i've discovered that this may actually be quite handy for people here on deviantART, especially females and the younger generation (hopefully no younger than 13 though as you shouldn't be on this site) :evileye:.

We all come across the people on dAmn asking for pictures, or their e-mail e.t.c Most times it's harmless, but not always. Just be weary of that.

I'd like to make people aware that they shouldn't be so quick to give out information. I see a lot of people posting non-artistic plain nude shots of themselves posing infront of the mirror, and this genuinly scares me - Not because i'm frightened to look, because i'm scared of what kind of people are looking at your images, and sending messages to you.

Not everybody on the internet are who they say they are. I'm sure many of you aren't naive enough to be taken in - but some are. And I know this from experiance. People can make you believe anything they want, try and not trust people you barely know.

Anyway, this is a news article not a journal I swear.

Below is a useful site showing awarness for Online Safety.
You can order a free ring from there, to promote the cause.
I actually have two of these rings which arrived in the post a few days ago, they are nothing much - but it's a little reminder.

Here is the website:

I completely agree =KatiBear there needs to be a level of caution especially when dealing with other people and communities on the internet. I've been involved in online communities for nearly 11 years and I've seen a lot of bad things happen from what seemed like harmless or insignificant questions. Fact of the matter is the Internet is not a safe place unless you take precautions that would be common sense in the real world. People will lie and quite often about a lot of things just to get to their clandestine goal and that will sometimes end in bad consequences.

Excellent news article...very well written. I don't think you can warn people, especially young people enough about the perils of online netiquette and safety. Thank you so much writing it.

Yup :( Unfortunatley people always tend to think it's not going to happen to them and that they think they really know the person. Which isn't always the case. So sad =[

Yeah and usually it's something easily preventable. I tend to educate parents who are looking to buy a PC for their young child (when I do go to Technology stores) how extremely important it is to monitor what their children do online and what safety measures to undertake to at least minimize the damage and problems.

Yeah definatley. If I were a parent, i'd be terrified if my young child would be in a chat room, i'd constantly monitor them :P

My mother did until she felt I was able to traverse through the internet on my own and because of that I developed various safety guards to keep myself from being totally compromised.
