Lowtech Summer Recap Newsletter

*lowtech-artists:iconlowtech-artists: reports, Aug 20, 2007
Welcome to Lowtech
08.20.2007 Issue
It's been a busy three months here at Lowtech! Unfortunately summer is almost over for us here at headquarters, and it's back to school soon, but that won't slow us down! It's time to recap the summer, just in case you missed it.

If any of you don't know what Lowtech is: It's a club that features the traditional artists of dA with contests art prompts and even a tutorial account for those stuck in a rut. Traditional art isn't just pen and paper. We accept anything you can do without a computer, which means writing, film photography, and artisan crafts as well. So far most of our members are the pencil and paper type, but who's complaining? You don't have to be a member to participate in our contests, or to take a look around our gallery.

We're glad to meet new people and check out what's going on around the galleries (the browse button is our best friend). If you have anything you think is important about the traditional art scene you want to tell us, just send a note.

Artists of the Summer!

June:
*PhantomSeptember entered our Weird Flowers contest , and one with a sweeping 72% of the vote. And upon viewing this piece and his gallery, it is obvious why. He's been on dA for a relatively short time, and has a pension for horror and Macabre, whether it be through visual art or literature.

This piece swept the competition with its bright splashes of color against the black and white of the skull. The stylistic touch and obvious skill made it a favorite.

A stunning phoenix in black and white. The eye for detail is excruciating in each feather, but it's worth it.

A poem on the woes of conformity. And experiment away from his usual Macabre writing.

July:
This lovely lady from the UK recently extended Lowtech's subscription. Usually a thanks is enough, but upon reaching her page, *mossi-mo insisted that she be featured as the artist of the month for July. just go to her page and it's obvious why. Since there was no July contest, it's alright if we sneak this talented timebomb in. To think, she has less than 2000 page views!

This was done in Ink and Pink Nail varnish. 'Nuff said? We think so.

Sure, there are a billion portraits out there of Elijah Wood, but this WIP has character bleeding out of it already, as do many of her portraits. She does something while she draws to bring the lines and shades to life on paper.

Not only does she draw, she takes lovely photos as well, and has a sense of humor to boot.

August:
Well, we ran out of people to feature,(More like we couldn't decide) so we decided to feature a few thumbs from our own gallery.

-abdication- by ~mybrokenshadow
A stunning visual modeled off of a stunning photo. It's full of movement ,action and emotion.

held back but not forever by *aeravi
A photo that could be depressing, but instead gives us hope.

The Ugly Beautiful Girls by ~Melindotty
A poem on the superficial, with imagery to fit the 'true' nature of today's valley girl. Mature Content Warning

Let's Show Carrie Some Love
No one may have noticed, seeing as the submissions have been going so smoothly, but our submissions fairy =carriephlyons has been missing! We searched and searched for the poor dear, thinking she had finally gone mad from the sheer volume of submissions, and when we contacted her, we found out that she had been ill! So, as thanks for being our lovely submissions fairy, chat admin, and all around awesome person, the current contest will be for a Get Well Card for Carrie! You may work on it as a solo or as a two person team. The winner's card will be sent to Carrie with love from Lowtech, and the winner(s) will be featured in the next newsletter. It would help if the piece was submitted as a print. See the Contest Journal for specific rules. This contest is open to the public.

Meet the New Staff!
If you've been wondering why the submissions and join notes have been answered so punctually, it's not because *mossi-mo has mastered time management and simultaneously discovered a way to instantly submit join notes and gallery pieces. On the contrary, we've gotten a mass of brand spankin' new talented and dedicated handymen and women who keep Lowtech running smoothly.

:iconpopcorn-pops:=popcorn-pops is our HandyWoman extraordinaire! She makes sure that the Specific journals are always updated with interesting information!

:iconcellophaneart:=Cellophaneart is our chat admin. He keeps the chats clean and free of spammers . Don't cross him, he has the power to kick and ban you from the Lowtechshare chat!

:iconzandrasaiquies:~ZandraSaiquies An Admin a few of you may recognize! She's back now to help out as a Chat Admin. She will not hesitate to smite you, so be good!

:iconapocalypsereborn:~ApocalypseReborn is our newest Handy Woman! AKA join note fairy. If *mossi-mo hasn't
processed your join note, rest assured that she's on the job!

:iconneko-txiki:~Neko-Txiki is our second newest Handy Woman! AKA assistant submissions fairy. She will help us surf through the mound of submissions sent to lowtech everyday!

:iconahbegorrah:~ahbegorrah is our first ever Workshop Staff. He is the Literary Specialist, and if you bring in your ailing literature for a critique, he'll be the one in charge.

A Word From the Admin
It's been an awfully busy summer, and I'm sorry to see it go. I'd like to thank all of the members who keep Lowtech alive, and the new staff who keep it running! I couldn't make all this happen alone!

Oh well, goodbye Australian winter. Here comes September!

Have a Squeet Day!
*mossi-mo
