Wanderlust, the UKs leading adventure-travel magazine, is once again on the hunt for the crème de la crème of travel photography.
The August/September issue of Wanderlust marks the 12th anniversary of the UKs longest-running annual travel photography competition.
Four lucky winners from the Amateur category will be sent on the trip of a lifetime to South Australia, while the winner of the new Portfolio category receives £5,000 cash double the cash prize of any similar UK competition!
For the Amateur category individuals are invited to submit up to four images in one or more of the following categories: People, Wildlife, Landscape or Festivals. Each winning image must reflect the overall theme of travel as well as interpreting the category concept in a unique way.
The top photographer (along with a companion) in each of the four Amateur categories will be whisked off to the diverse state of South Australia on a photographic commission, courtesy of the South Australian Tourism Commission and Singapore Airlines. All winners and shortlisted entrants will also have a fantastic opportunity to showcase their photos in Wanderlust, The Independent and at Destinations 2008 the UKs top holiday and travel show. There are also great Nikon cameras and Rohan travel gear to be won for highly commended and runner-up Amateur entrants.
The new Portfolio category is open both to professional photographers and those amateur photographers who think their work can make the grade when judged on
professional criteria. This category challenges entrants to put together a set of five eye-catching images, all themed to fit one of the four main categories: People, Wildlife, Landscape or Festivals.
Taking and editing a set of five great pictures with a common theme is a true test of a photographers skills. Thats why in 2006 the judges made the bold decision that none of the portfolios in the Professional category had quite enough quality to win outright so the experts decided not to award the first prize, demonstrating that even good photographers find it difficult to edit their own work.
The top prize of £5,000 will be awarded to the best portfolio of travel images, with a prize of £1,000 plus a Nikon camera going to a lucky runner-up. One highly commended entry will also win a camera, courtesy of competition sponsor Nikon.
