Just getting into BJD, but have no idea where to start shopping? A vetran and tired of telling 1000 people that you got your hydrangea from 4D? Here's a little linksource to cure your woes. Not every company/wig manufacturer/eye manufacturer is listed here, but it's a good place to start.

has only been a part of dA for a little over three months, but in that short time his body of work, encompassing industrial, fantasy, landscape, portraiture and conceptual work has definitely caught the eye of the folk at .
Do you remember what it was like when you first joined deviantart? Do you remember the first people you met, the first few people who watched you and those you watched back? Do you remember what it was like trying to find your way around, learning the dA etiquette? Fav's and comments, features and journals, friends and deviations? For some it'll feel like a really long time ago, for others it'll feel like yesturday ... or hell, maybe it really was yesturday!
You know, when I look back on my time here on dA I feel proud to have known the people who touched me, who helped me and who inspired me. I tried to share that with them in return, and pass it on to other people. So in turn, here's what I can pass on to you.
Stop The Hate ...
Firstly, I've notice alot of arguments about 'Favourites' and 'Comments' going on lately. I'd like people to sit back and relax, because we're all just here to enjoy ourselves. If someone fav's your work it's a compliment, because you touched them and your work caught their eye for one reason or another. If they leave a comment of any sort, that's also amazing and worthy of making your smile. Even better if that comment is personal or specific.
But just because someone fav's without a comment, or only leaves a 'small non-descript' comment doesn't mean you should be angry or sad. Infact, they have still shown appreciation for your work and for me at least, it always makes me smile. I think every bit counts, and I'd hate to see these lovely active people who support artists in the best way they know how being pinned down and ridiculed for enjoying their time on dA.
I personally try to reply to comments as much as possible, and to thank people for favourites on my artwork. I don't expect others to do the same because it's not necessary, but I just like to do it because I want to. If you give without expectation, then you end up being alot happier in the end when someone gives something back.
Help The New ...
Actually, this can also apply to those who have been on dA longer than the newbies. I've got a few tips that may seem obvious to some, but if you don't know then they'll come in mighty handy as they often do to me.
[link] - The Help & Faq page can be invaluble ... use it when you've got questions because there's a butt-load of information just waiting there for you. You never know what might come in handy.
[link] - Check the Forum from time to time. You never know what some of the dA staff are announcing there and again, the information can come in handy. There's also alot of people looking for answers so if you see a question you think you can help with, throw the people a bone every now and then. It's the deviant way.
[link] - Wondering about Bugs and those kinds of things ... this is totally the place to look before reporting them. I have to admit, it took me a while to actually pay attention to the Forum's, but now I check them often and they have helped me keep up to date with some bugs that had affected me without having to send a ticket to the help desk reporting an issue that no doubt hundreds of people had also done when there was a report in this Forum that I should have read. Seriously worth going to check out because the staff here have alot to do and this will help you keep up and maybe answer a question or two.
Finding Friends ...
Okay, so sometimes it's not the easiest thing to do. All I can suggest is be active, be kind, and most of all be respectful to each other. If you're supportive to people, they will usually respond in like-manner. Keep in mind that everyone is different, and we all have the right to act the way we wish to in the end ... but remember that what goes around comes around and if you're nasty it'll probably come back to bite ya! It's not that hard ... learn to love, because dA lovin' is the best!
What's News?
Do you ever find yourself wondering what the hell is going on around dA? How to be social and active, or just to see what everyone else is doing around the site? Sometimes it seems quite hard to keep track of, but the brilliance is you should check out [link] because the addition of the news section of the site is brilliant. Here's a few good places to start, but seriously, browse the various headings because you'll find some amazing features and artworks this way ... oh, and don't forget to fav new items too because that's a great way to spread the word (e.g. I fav'd [link] because it was an issue that had affected me and this news item had helped me rectify it).
[link] - Usually a good place to start when looking for contests to get involved in.
[link] - Again, a good place to get info on dA happenings from some awesome staff members.
What Else Is There?
Well when it comes down to it, the best way to start is just browse around the site. The best place to start with your questions is the Help page and generally, a little kindness goes a long way in such a big community. It doesn't mean you can't express your true feelings and oppinions, just be mindful that some people will take it to heart so if you really want to think about how you enjoy your time here, think about how people wish to enjoy theirs aswell and maybe we'll all find our happy equilibrium.
I'd like to finish with some awesome features from my favourites. I love this pieces so I hope you will too!
Emmy, this journal is like, one of the BEST I've read here on DA in a long time.
If everyone followed a simple "respect each other", "Think before you speak" rule, things would be soooo much easier, not only here on DA, but in everyone's lives as well.
I find it just sad when you see someone flaming someone else simply just for the sake of being mean. They have the nerve to call it "criticism. If you can't handle don't ask for it".
Now, I may not be an expert in human relationships, but I believe that you *can* give an honest opinion, even if it's not a good opinion, about something without making the other feel bad. I've seen some of the people I watch strugling to keep the self steem to keep posting their art, and that just breaks me. No one is better than anyone.
I'm happy to say that I met some really close and personal friends here on DA also. People who I shared lots of my life on notes, or e-mails, and even on the MSN. And I'm sure I still have many that I'll add to my lovely online family. Even thought we don't talk everyday, I am always reminded of them by one reason or another, and that's what's friendship is all about I think. Caring.
I loved your tips about helping the new artists and the link to the "news" on DA. I must confess that some parts of this site are still a mistery to me, (like the forums) and I should definitely start braving them and get more inside what's going on. What a lovely journal hun!!
And last, but not least (cause you can tell I'm rambling here, right? ), thanks so much for the feature! You're so kind! I feel honored!
Wow Emmy, this is a most informative and interesting article. Well done for compiling it, you really are a star, always cheerful, delightful to encounter and full of dA love! You set a wonderful example of deviousness for newbies and oldies!
I am also so touched that you thought to include two of my pieces! You really are a huge shiny dA star!
I've been browsing only my page for ages, but when I started to browse forum and news, my life in dA gets a lot better
Thank you for sharing these nice things
