100 Picture Themed Challenge for Writers

~pillywiggin:iconpillywiggin: reports, August 27, 2007
Deviant art isn't just for artists. There are many writers out there, and now, here's something for all of you.

The infamous 100 picutre challenge has been revamped for all the writers out there.

The rules are simple.

1) Make 100 stories, each story based on a theme. (One good list can be found at this [link] ) Each story should have ONE and only ONE theme to it, for it to count.

2) There is no time limit, so have fun.

3) You may use whatever writing document you choose. Total word count for each story should be mentioned in the comments, or a journal. Set a personal word limit. Short stories generally run anywhere from 3,000-40,000 words. Don't worry if it's less than 3,000 words. It can be as long (or short) as you'd like to make it.

3-A) All stories should be original works. You may not edit old stories you've written, or others have written, or break any other rules set out in the DA etiquette policy. Your stories can be anything from satire and comedy to great literary pieces. Just have fun with it.

4) The list below is to be placed somewhere in your journal for others to see that......
-A) You are participating in the challenge.
-B) What you have completed.

5) Make sure to update this list and check off what is done and make a link to the story.

6) In the comments for your story, note if it is part of the list and what ONE theme it is, as well as the total word count. And because we're writers, if the connection to the theme isn't obvious, do explain how you used to the theme in the associated story.

7) These stories can be any genre, a mix of many, or each a seperate one. Don't feel restricted to using only one genre for all 100 stories.

Let your fingers fly, writers, and enjoy the 100 Story Challenge!

:iconmadeleine-da:
It's a good way to kill time and improve your skills, but personally I find it too time and energy consuming; too tiring (100 stories with a limit of 3,000 words per story... that's a bit too much for my taste -- lazy kid, I know). And I'm not much of a fan of predefined themes either -- a good idea nonetheless.

--
I exist in a fantasy world.
Deny me if you can.
:iconpillywiggin:
Mm, I don't think of them as themes so much as word promts. For example, my idea for "dark" has more to do with a gothic club scene than the actual element dark.

And it doesn't have to be 3k. That's just an average short story size. Not to mention that you can do it only when you want to. There's no time limit. Hell, if you wanted, you could spend years working on it.

It's just for fun. And, as you said, has the added bonus of improving your skills. Also, I few it as a chance to write things I normally wouldn't write. Like romance, sci-fi, and maybe even a historical fiction. Its a great way to broaden the horizons as well as kill time.

It seems like lots of fun, mya! :D Can we do collaborations with other writers, like ~Shadow-Mage-Luna-oneesama? She's my best friend and she's obsessed with lyrical poetry and foreign stories. :P

I own Hayate, Momoko, and Seira! [link]

I LOVE HAYATE FROM MAHOU SHOUJO LYRICAL NANOHA!!! If anybody wants to draw fan-art for me on her, please feel free to do so! I'm a completely obsessed fan! ^^
:iconpillywiggin:
Well, keep in mind that it doesn't have to be 3,000. You don't even have to use the words as themes. Already several have served more as prompts than anything else. Besides, some of those would be very difficult to turn into stories, short or otherwise.

Poetry can only be described as a rythmic spoken word. Often encoded with a greater message.
