WARNING: SPAM-SCAMS!!!

=salshep:iconsalshep: reports, August 29, 2007
There are companies who target inexperienced/hopeful writers, often approaching them through scam campaigns like this one on dA: [link] . Almost 3000 identical messages left in a single day. Yeah, that's a LOT of GENIUS. There was another I found, fortunately banned already, by the same person.

Now, what this is is a scam to get you to enter a poetry competition. That's how they get your e-mail. Then you get a very pretty letter saying how WONDERFUL your poem is, and recieve all sorts of offers to let these sods publish you, for free. BUT IT ISN'T FREE. To obtain a copy of this publication (of which they do about 60 a year), in which your poem is stuffed in with thousands of others (you even have to PAY to have your poem printed on its own page) you have to spend BIG. Then they hit you with "opportunites" to buy a whole stack of other products, and even go to conferences. Now, I have read reports about these conferences and they, too, are a horrible rip-off that hard-working families pay thousands to attend.

DO NOT BE FOOLED.

Read these articles, for the proof of this company's dishonesty and lack of caring about your work:

:bulletred: [link]
:bulletred: [link]

I hate seeing people ripped off. If you find a site like this on dA, do your bit to help stop them by sending a complaint in to to the Help Desk, and keeping an eye out on the page to give warnings to those who think it is a genuine offer.

HELP STOP THE SCAM!!!!

Devious Comments

:iconkitty1004:
thanks for this, i followed links from her page to your article. have you checked the rules to make sure you wont get busted by da staff for calling out in an article? hope u wont get in trouble.
:iconsalshep:
Well, if there's a rule against protecting writers from this sort of rubbish, it's a shitty rule, isn't it?

:)

:iconfelixt:
Finally someone reported 'bout that.
I was a bit shocked though, I didn't know they were already invading dA... :x
:icondutchshun:
Well done for writing this !

I also got an invite posted to my gallery.

Thank you for writing this. I didn't have any idea that this was going on. The people who pray on us poets shoud be punished for such horrid acts.

There's so much beauty in the world.
Sometimes I feel like Im seeing it all at once, and its too much,
My heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst...
And then I remember to relax...and then it flows through me like rain

:icongoodasell:

:iconangelofdeath2theend:

There is no Good and Evil, only what we think is Good/Evil...
:iconkitty1004:
well spamming is against the rules for everyone really but the staff have trouble enforcing everything at once lol
but what i meant is that i hope you dont get into trouble for 'calling-out' another deviant for spamming in a news article. they take that a bit seriously aswel.. be careful :)
:iconsalshep:
No worries.

If you'd like to help thier spam-campaign backfire in thier faces, you could fave this news, or maybe link peope to the sites in the article that expose the scam, when you see them on folk's pages.

Show 'em that they picked the wrong damned site to try their crap on!!!
