Well, I was browsing through my second-favorite writing site for anime--FanFiction.Net--and I just happened to come across the strangest community I've ever seen:
[link]
I'm sure that you guys who are reading this all are thinking, "So what's the big deal? It's just anime poetry, there's nothing wrong about that." Would you like me to give you
proper definitions as to what anime and poetry are?
These definitions are taken [and slightly edited] from their Wikipedia entries, so they're quite accurate by regular standards. Please read through every bit of these two definitions, which I will seperate with a double-space.
"Anime is an abbreviation of the word "animation". Outside Japan, the term most popularly refers to animation originating in Japan. To the West, not all animation is considered anime; anime is considered a subset of animation.
While some anime is hand drawn, computer assisted animation techniques have become quite common in recent years. Like any entertainment medium, the story lines represent most major genres of fiction. Anime is broadcast on television, distributed on media such as DVD and VHS, and included in video games.
Additionally, some are produced as full length motion pictures. Anime often draws influence from manga, light novels, and other cultures. Some anime storylines have been adapted into live action films and television series."
"Poetry is a form of art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its ostensible meaning. Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems, or may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns or lyrics.
Poetry often uses particular forms and conventions to expand the literal meaning of the words, or to evoke emotional or sensual responses. Devices such as assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve musical or incantatory effects. Poetry's use of ambiguity, symbolism, irony and other stylistic elements of poetic diction often leaves a poem open to multiple interpretations.
Similarly, metaphor and simile create a resonance between otherwise disparate imagesa layering of meanings, forming connections previously not perceived. Kindred forms of resonance may exist, between individual verses, in their patterns of rhyme or rhythm.
Some forms of poetry are specific to particular cultures and genres, responding to the characteristics of the language in which the poet writes. In today's globalized world, poets often borrow styles, techniques and forms from diverse cultures and languages."
Now, after reading all of this, do you guys really think that the sub-genre called "Anime Poetry" is really neccessary? I'm sure that you'd think it'd be nice to have, but aren't they so much better when they're seperate?
Anime is anime and poetry is poetry. We don't need to mix them together in order to make ourselves seem awesome, because we ruin the seperate meanings for the two when we do so. It's not fair to everybody else when the people who are rude enough to "go beyond fanfictions" make up anime poetry to give them the appearance of being great writers and artists.
If this actually gets submitted in a news article, I'd like you all to remember that when you want to write your special "anime poetry", it won't be as great as you think it'll be, because you'll be destroying your future potential if you decide to do so.

Subgenres such as these may very well be the next frontier of literature, depending on whether they birth any successful writers or not. Nobody seems to mind throwing around terms like "Confessional Poetry" or "Surrealist Poetry" as far as I've seen, but the same argument could be made (That poetry and confessional writing are two different things, for instance). I think it really depends on one's willingness to say that this subject matter absolutely cannot make good poetry. But if it did happen, then folks would have to redefine their definition of what poetry is.
