This is the fifteenth Vexelicious feature article. As the name suggests, this article will be all about vexels. It is divided into three parts: DD's given in May and April, Vexels uploaded in May and April, and Themed Vexels.
Influenced by recent dispute, it has been decided that it is time to make a solidified definition of what a vexel is by deviantART's terms. Please understand that this definition, and the rules along with it, are not made up from a few of the gallery moderator's thoughts, but built from the foundation of what the creator's words on 'vexel' were, and what the majority of the vexel community of deviantART has come to accept as a vexel. These rules are solid, final, and most-likely will not be faltered.
These series have the intention of showing you the Daily Deviations featured for the Comic & Cartoons galleries during the month for you to enjoy them one more time or check them out in case you missed any.

Isometric PixelArt has been defined by many people in many different ways to explain what it is and how it is created. This is my attempt and I intend to keep it as simple and concise as possible.
What it is not.
Isometric PixelArt is not just something that looks like 3D or a perspective drawing.
What it is.
It is a way to create a scene, an object or a character by following one very basic and simple rule ..start with two pixels across and one pixel up to build your picture. That is Isometric PixelArt in essence.
When you look at a genuine piece of Isometric Pixelart it appears as though you are looking at it from above, from one side and the front at an angle. Here is a really wonderful example of why this view is the way it is.
Buildings tend to make up a large part of Isometric PixelArt because they are right angle objects and lend themselves very well to Isometrics
Characters seen in games are often Isometric and still have that same look of from above, side and front view from an angle. Sometimes you will see a character only from the front or back but still it will appear as though you are viewing them from above. If you ever look at a character and they appear on the same level as you, they are not Isometric.

Non-Isometric Sprites
Objects still have to obey the same rules in Isometrics .looking from above, from the side and the front at an angle.

That's a very sensible selection of examples. We can never have enough definitions of what makes Pixel Art, and within that, what defines Isometric. It's not rocket science - just two pixels across and one up.
Great article! I never knew people had so much confusion over this topic. This should help clear up the gallery's nicely also!

Ooooh, awesome. Thank you so much for this! Pixel art is one of my favourite things to look through and I don't feel like it's recognized enough, so you are awesome for doing this news piece, too. Even though pixel art on the whole is awesome, I do lean toward isometric stuff...it usually has a cleaner look to me, at least. Thanks for shedding light on something that might otherwise go unrecognized for what it is!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
