It's very simple. Beautiful art is not about complexity or about skill, it's about finding beauty in a simple idea that it over-whelmingly brilliant.
I'm =
TheEmptyWhiteRoom, a professional Art Critic here in the UK, home of wacky and wonderful art. As a critic I mostly critique photography, as it's what I'm good at and know the most about. But I want to tell you now, here and now, that good photography is not about skill, it's about
simplicity. Here are some examples:
Simple seascapes are a thing of beauty. Get rid of everything that you don't absolutely need to take the shot, and then take the shot.
It's
just a water-droplet. Nothing else, no background, no foreground. It's
simple.
Macro shots are
always better when they're simple. Come on, you have to agree with me there...
Portraiture is about the beauty inside the person. Fake exterior beauty hides this, so the simpler the shot, the more beauty is shown.
It's a flower -
that's it!
Yes! Finally a sky shot that isn't over-crowded, sharpened or HD. Simple, clean ideas.
Architecture is at it's most beautiful when it is at its most simple. Abstract is good, but capturing a building with the minum effort is mastercard (priceless).
Simple lines, simple ideas...
White is a clean colour, but gradient is important too. Depth of field, composition and lighting need to be as simple and natural as possible.
Don't be afraid of over super-over-exposure. It creates the most amazing pictures, because all of the unnecessary details are thrown out of the window.
Emotions are complicated, but touching them is simple...
Simple landscapes are
so good, and so easy to take...
See what I mean? Simple = amazing!
Thanks for reading - now go out there and take beautiful shots! Remember, question whether anything
needs to be in the shot. And when you have done that, do it again. Twice. Or three times. When everything is complex, beauty is simple.
Yours,
=
