Artistic Nudes - A study by Fahd A. Paracha

=fahap:iconfahap: reports, May 15
Depictions of nudity refers to nudity in all the artistic disciplines including vernacular and historical depictions. Nudity in art has generally conformed — with some variation — to social standards for public nudity; in cultures where nudity was accepted, nude figures in painting and sculpture were as well.

A look into deviations using complimentary, contrasting, and monochrome colors.

A better way to organize deviations?

*Orioto:iconOrioto: reports, May 7
The actual way of organizing content is somewhat not perfect, cause it links two things that should be independant : genre and tech of an image.

deviantART's Mature Content Hypocrisy

*sephys-little-cloud:iconsephys-little-cloud: reports, May 15
Why does the deviantART staff refuse to enforce their own rules sometimes? When it comes to prohibited content such as pornography and underage nudity, why do they let some obscene material stay up, while innocent deviations get deleted?

DA Inflation : Artist Feature I

=eiahmiki:iconeiahmiki: reports, May 17
Many artists here need just as much attention as those that we always see on the front page. DA's population gets bigger and bigger everyday and we can say that there's an inflation - more artists get less exposure. Now let's give them a chance! :)

deviantART CEA; FAQ #565 and Policy Interpretation

=exsecror:iconexsecror: reports, May 16
The purpose or rather intent of this news article is to address the increasing concerns by many deviantART members (including myself) as to the recent results from the new Policy Violation Reporting System and the deviantART Copyright Etiquette and Administration (CEA) team. I should stress that this is not meant as an attack or attempt to defame what the CEA team does. They do a fantastic job at making sure that deviantART is clean but rather it addresses a serious concern about interpretations of two FAQs, namely #565 and their compliance with United States Code Statutes.

Artists: How not to get ripped off!

=GirlFlash:iconGirlFlash: reports, September 11, 2007
Ok, so you are an artist right? you can do stuff many other people cant.
there are many people who would try to take advantage of that.

so I put together a tutorial that lets you spot the con-artists from the real deal so you wont be caught out :)

---

Ok, so you are browsing a forum, and you spot something intersting. someone is looking for an artist with your skills, for a really cool project and they may even be offering money.

but hold on a second, do not just jump in and say you're the one for the job. this person may take what you do, not credit you, and not pay you. or perhaps this person is just making the request on a whim and has no idea just how to do what they want or what they are asking for, and all your work will go to waste.

here is how to tell if the person is reliable or not:

1) check the persons post count/sign up date.
if they are active on the community there is a good chance they dont want to make a fool of themselves by ripping off people at the place they hang out.

2) Find out if the person has a website.
a person who owns and runs a domain is most likely not alien to transferring money on the internet and you can usually find a physical address of the person or buisness (a buisness that withholds its address is not one to be trusted). ignore any free hosted websites such as freewebs.com, no proffesional worth their salt will use them.

3) Find out their email address.
hotmail, gmail, yahoo and similar are not the kind of buisness e-mails you should expect to see. it should be linked to their web domain or their ISP if they do not have one.

4) Do background checks.
google the persons name/username. have they done a similar or related project in the past so you can tell if they know what they are talking about.

5) Ask questions.
If anything above starts ringing alarm bells ask the person about it, they may have a decent explanation for it (they may be looking for help on making a website ;))

also its good to get a rapport with a person before you talk the serious stuff. and it may highlight any flaws the person has yet to realise.

---

in short, check to see if the person is being proffesional, anybody can be a CEO of their bedroom, but if they arent proffessional they wont (and shouldnt) get past that point.

I know its a really exciting thing to lend your creativity to someone else, but it pays to check it wont go to waste first :)

Nice article. The only bit I don't agree with is the bit about Gmail. Many professionals are using it now because it pretty much beats the pants off of any other email software out there. I have both a gmail address and one for my domain name, but that one just gets forwarded to my gmail anyway. It also has the benefit of being built into a lot of handheld devices now, like the Blackberry, which many professionals live by. I wouldn't discount someone as a phony just because of that.

Nice article otherwise, though.

Ouch on the free websites. I am webmaster of over 5 sites and I can't afford that many domains. I have an established reputation as an ebayer and coming up on 4 year at deviantart.

I applaud all your statements except artists "not being worth their salt" for using free webhosting. Starving artists can't afford it.
