Hello there people,
I wanted to show you a few of this guy's games, they are excellent works of art. His most recent - Within a Deep Forest, Knytt and Knytt Stories - are his best games so far (not that the older ones were worse...)
Within a Deep Forest won the award of best game of 2006 in the free downloadable category at Jay Is Games (
[link]), and Knytt coming in second.
Let's start with Knytt Stories, his most recent game.
In Knytt Stories you play as Juni, a small knytt that must go through the world collecting power-ups, maneuver vicious enemies and traps, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and music within. Now, Knytt Stories doesn't has a predetermined plot, is made of stories, that most of the time they don't have to do any with each other - some even contradicting each other - so that Juni has many and very different adventures.
The game comes with a small level called The Machine, in which she must turn off a machine to save the world. There are also an Official level pack, and a 3rd party level pack that you can download from the main page. The game also comes with a powerful level editor, in which you can design your own stories.
And now for Knytt.
In knytt the plot is simple. The main character, which is a child knytt, gets abducted by an alien. While going through space, the ship collapses into an asteroid and falls into a nearby planet. The knytt and the alien are fine, but the ship is a wreck, now you have to look for the pieces of the ship around this unknown planet to go back home.
This game, rather than focusing in gameplay, it focus in the great ambiance and scenery built within the game. It's a good game to take a break from the stress of work and school, you could probably beat it in less than an hour. Now, if you want a challenge try finding the secrets. not everything that you see is what there is, can you find the secrets ans cheats (and the Magdenburska Martian Deathray Panthzer Crawler)?
And finally, for Within a Deep Forest.
"The year is 2500, the whole world is in ruins, very few people have survived the war, one of which the notorious and infamous Dr. Cliché. The time machine that he has built has enabled him to travel many hundred years back in time. Here he has been able to complete his most dastardly deed, the building of an underwater laboratory, one of which he placed the most powerful bomb the world has yet known. His first attempt failed, and instead, led to the creation of a ball, although no ordinary ball. If ever this puncture exploded the entire planet would freeze, and all life would be lost. In this way Dr. Cliché aim to eliminate beyond all reckoning of such a future ever coming to pass. Where Dr. Cliché is exactly at present nobody knows, but rumor has it that the bomb is activated. The world lies in great danger, that is, unless..." That's the plot. You're that ball of the failed bomb, a living blue ball that must cancel the countdown of the bomb.
This game is pure skill, challenge with a puzzle element involved. You must get power-ups, or materials, to complete this game; pass difficult mazes and areas, enjoy the beautiful scenery and music, and stop the bomb. This game was qualified as "Cute but Evil", which it certainly true. There used to be a speedrun feature, but due to certain changes there is no one any more, the best time was 20min:18sec (if I don't remember wrong)
Don't forget to check out the other Nifflas games as well, which you can find in the UnOficial Nifflas GamePage (see link below)
There's a growing community of artists, designers and gamers dedicated to Nifflas games, and lately, in creating Knytt Stories levels.

Just so that you know, If you watch me I'll watch you, unless that I don't like your art.
I saw someone upload a screenshot of a Knytt Stories level here on dA. The beautiful, low-res pixel scenery prompted me to download the game. I was half expecting some B-quality production of a game, but I was blown away. I played through all the official levels and the creativity and versatility of gameplay, art, and music completely floored me at some points. "Sky Flower" especially knocked my socks off.

Aren't they, Mr. cat?
I'm totally enamoured with all of Nifflas' games. I've been following his progress since Within a Deep Forest was released (to me, still his best!)
Ambient gameplay indeed - the graphics combined with his amazing music makes the worlds so vivid and (usually) peaceful. I hope to be able to craft a similarly tangible atmosphere one day...
